They were fast, this is a drivers track. Did you not notice at Silverstone he was off the pace, because it is a car dependant track. I’m getting a bit tired of you thinking there is foul play too. Austin was extensively scrutinised at Indy, and we found nothing wrong whatsoever. He was gracious about the whole thing.

You need to realise too, you are in a year old chassis and you’re not the fastest guy here, no offence intended. People in lesser cars will be quicker than you at times.

I wasn't even there at Silverstone, so no.
I get that he's a fast driver, but so is Jaques. So are lots of others, yet there's still that 10+ second gap.
Plus, it's my opinion what I think and if it's wrong, well whatever then. But that won't change my opinion about things

Everybody is quite frustrated because of today's problems, let's all go to bed and have a rest, tomorrow things will look different. And be sure, we are continuously working towards improving things, even if quietly.

Has anyone ever tried to open up that multiplayr.ini(?) file I think, and tried to adjust down- and uprate that way? Does it even work?

Because I am not sure how to maybe adjust it more suitably in this game, as it doesn't have the multiplayer settings like rF1 did.

And I kinda hate my finishing statistics to go down because of discos lol!

Jaques is also in a year old chassis. You’ll see him at the front when he gets the new car. But yet he was closer to the front today as this is a drivers circuit. And yes there are other quicker drivers, yet no one else has complained to me or questioned anything.

Yes it’s your opinion, but opinion doesn’t overule fact, and for a fact we found no evidence of foul play. In fact he went even quicker than in the Indy race. We thoroughly examined all aspects of his test and race, putting many hours into his race and test results to be certain. You can continue to have your opinion of course, but please keep it to yourself and from the public forum, what you are doing now could be misconstrued as slander. If you want to discuss it further, please PM me.

Damn it, Twisted Evil I crashed at the start of the final lap.
Oh well, I wasn't in the points anyway (7th). Rolling Eyes

A very good race for the first five laps, lots of battles going on even if it is difficult to overtake.

My lack of practice, affinity with the cars, and a cold to put another downward spiral on things, deffinitely showed tonight.

It was a good thing that I have many hours on the ring though, that helped with at least knowing, almost always, what was coming up. Sorry Jason I think it was that I kind of brake checked going into the esses before Little Carousel, completely lost track of where I was Embarassed

But also, thank you very much for the great battle we had Jason!
As well as thank you to Dana, Jason White and Adam for smaller and shorter battles that was enojeyable too.

Now to get some sleep before work and hopefully feeling a bit better tomorrow. I at least only got 3 classes to teach so it's not that bad even if I feel the same :smil20:

Man that was TOUGH!

First off.. Austin.. Thiago... Well done guys. Another planet today! Untouchable... :top:

My race started in a pretty bad way. Having severe damage after T1, initially I admit I thought someone dive-bombed me but looking at it in replay me and David Jundt just rubbed rear wheels and collided. No ones fault and just one of those incidents.. Hopefully he got away un damaged! My self.. well my wheel was 45 degrees over to the right just to keep the car going straight..

So basically damage limitation tonight but thankful to have been able to finish 3rd.

Pascal, Had to go for it as I knew it would be hard to pass you otherwise Very Happy

Richard, championships not over. Anything can happen. Just takes that one DNF or spin and games back on!

Well done Austin again. Thoroughly deserved pal

Congrats to all the finishers!

A disconnection while running 10th halfway through the last lap adds yet another DNF to my stats. In spite of the less than ideal finish, what a superb and fun challenge! This was my first attempt at a full length race at Nordschleife, and I almost had a top ten. Even with the nature of the track, I had some great battles throughout mainly trying to chase down Jason Whited and Jonatan. Great fun!

This track is such a unique challenge requiring a level of concentration unmatched to any other circuit I've driven. That feeling of panic as you second guess which section of the track you're entering and whether or not you're in the right gear is something I've never experienced before.

Thanks to all at HSO for bringing the 1971 Ringmaster to life!

Qualifying? Bleh. P12 was the best for me, not only because I managed to run into Timo who decided to go so slow, I almost fell asleep, but also because on my very last attempt, I accidentally cut a corner and got an invalid lap.

Race? OH BOY!
Started P12, avoided most of the drama in T1 to come out 3rd. Grant overtakes me after Adenauer Forst, so I'm 4th. Gotta give it to Grant, to overtake at that point takes balls. GG.
Of course, as always, Johnson running 10+ seconds a lap faster than anyone.. Same with Canola, oh I have to say a word about him..
Inevitably, he was behind me at one point. Decides he has enough of me trying to defend my position so he pushes me in Tiergarten and I spin. Damage to the front, nothing dramatic. Lost 2 places and 3/4 of my front tires because flat spots.
One lap later, another spin in the very last corner and I literally just gave up.
Another home race not finished, yay! Just like last year in WEC when I could've so easily just won the G5 class. But whatever. I'll see if I'll be available next time.

...Hello Pascal, nice too meet you too. Please, look the replay...I didn't hit your car at all. Your rear left tire touched the grass and you lost control in front of me. You had a good pace and was using the whole track properly. I was waiting until the straight to try to overtake you. I also lifted the pedal to see if you could recover but you went towards the wall. I fell sorry for what happened with you after this incident.

WOW my arms feel like jello. That is one hell of a track, one of my all time favorites! I had to capitalise on this opportunity to get a win in F1 this season. I've been so close all year and working my butt off to get to this point and it payed off. These next few races won't be quite as good seeing how they're long top speed tracks. My little small block ford will be down on some power.

As for the foul play talk that's kinda a compliment. I put in time for my setup and I understand how cars work. Its that simple. If anyone needs help feel free to ask. I think more practice on everyone's end helps. You can't go to one of the worlds most dangerous tracks and run 5 laps of practice and expect to win it's not gonna happen. I ran 117 laps and ran 1 lap in the 7 min 28 sec margin. The track was perfect, full of grip and just ran a lucky lap with no mistakes.

Congrats to all the Competitors it was a tough race.

Now on to POCONO :cowboy: :yaa:

Well that's certainly the most accomplished I've felt after a 2/3 distance DNF. In retrospect, the Nordschleife may not have been the best venue for my first race back after a broken collarbone and elbow. :hihi:  But I wanted to knock some rust loose before Pocono and the 'Ring is too consistently a manic good time to resist.

Thanks to the handful of people I had short fun scraps with as I yoyoed through the lower-to-mid positions before pulling into the pits at the end of lap 8 to retire and eat some tylenols.  :top:

And here's hoping Pocono treats me a little more gently. study

what a monster of a race, the ring certainly is a special place. grats to austin, really impressive pace in qualifying, and just as impressive to keep such a pace for the whole race. tiago, same with the pace and the come back drive. grant, really solid run, especially now that i read you were carrying damage.

really pleased with my event, pb in qualifying and mostly solid run thru the race (lost 100% focus at one point in the middle but managed to keep it mostly pointed in the proper direction). still not sure what happened at the start, into the first turn it seemed the entire field in front of me went wide and promoted me to a way better position than deserved, which allowed me to focus on racing the track and to run my own pace. as mentioned, at some point mid-race i lost my pace/focus and made a series of small errors which really broke my rhythm. brian j had been slowly reeling me in, but those errors put him right on my tail. i got way out of shape and off line headed down to the "tightest turn on the track" and i think that smoke show put brian out. i thought i had a good enough pace to at least put up a challenge, but i didn't want it to end that way, if my being in the way put you out i do apologize. i had another couple close calls, then was able to really focus and re-group to bring it home the rest of the distance.

@bloom, the tow and repair times can be frustrating, but i for one really like this aspect of the qualifying. it really rewards being able to take care of the car, and simulates another element of real racing. i'm a supporter of using this feature.

@pascal, i appreciate you mentioning my name but i don't think i'm as fast of a driver as austin. i usually get an edge from practice/testing/setup and like to think im pretty good, but there are certainly several on here faster than me. and as mentioned already, i have been in the "older" brm, fingers are crossed the new one will be able to make up at least some of the gap i have to the front.

best,
dave

I can just about copy past my race reports in this series.

- Qualified way below the car's potential.
- Made up 5 places before reaching turn 1.
- Crashed when trying to keep up with people whose pace was superior to mine.

Some day I'll learn how to drive these things properly. Probably halfway through the last race of the season.  lol!

Maybe it's time to consider changing my name to Dave Walker. :rigol:

I'll never understand why the unofficial "triple crown" of motorsports comprised the Monaco F1 GP instead of the Green hell one. Monaco has the glamour, but IMHO to be at the level of monster races as the Indy 500 and Le Mans, you have to go for something as hard and long as the green hell :smil20:

And BTW even if having the german GP at the ring be the 3x Crown leg, Graham Hill would still retain it Very Happy as he won there in 1962 :first:

I had slightly higher expectations for my race than I was able to achieve, but overall I was shooting for a top 10 and managed P9, so happy with that.

Had a horrible quali, spent more time in the pits waiting for repairs and whatnot than on track doing hotlaps. 355 seconds, 200 and some, then a bit 1600 second one when I destroyed the car about half way around the track.
Considering the circumstances, my pit crew is awesome...very very quick, considering what would have been real world side (I'd probably be dead, but that's another matter :rigol: )
Also, going to add my support for the tow times during quali and race sessions. I wasn't necessarily a fan of it being set on server at all times, but for official sessions, I think it's great and like others said, adds that extra bit of realism to the whole show. (BTW...the sim will save the tow times if one simply leaves server and comes back without exiting the sim...but if you exit the entire game, close Steam, and then reboot the sim, the tow time is not saved, even now, after Reiza supposedly "fixed" that....just sayin') But, definitely hard call for admin if some are evading tow times because it is almost impossible to determine if it was a disco or intentional evading. I guess multiple instances and patterns, but not my job, however I do hope those purposely evading tow times are eventually caught and punished. It's annoying, that little stutter when people keep joining/leaving the server over and over. Just take the tow penalty like the rest of us! :grrr:

Anyways...back to race.

Tough start...T1 and from my end it appeared most of the field was off in the grass..but some warping was occurring, cars disappearing/reappearing..miracle to make it through without incident, but was very clean considering.

Tried to settle in early and just race the track...but, managed to get off in the grass and touched the wall somewhere on lap 3. Just grazed it, but broadside and the left side was never the same. Wheel cocked at around 11 degrees..not undriveable, but not predictable at all either...there were some scary moments!

Had some short battles with a few...then Jonatan came along to make my life interesting. Adam in close pursuit. Attrition found us battling for a top 10 spot, then P9. I thought I was going to lose it, the car was lacking pace, lacking top speed (especially after the incident and a few hard over revs) and I was getting crushed in a straight line. Cornering was ok..but the car with damage was not the same car and I was constantly readjusting just to stay in the road, let alone try to pace well and battle anyone.

A good battle with Jonatan made things interesting...always clean (thanks for that!) and very fun...definitely no need to mention challenging when discussing a race at the green hell!

Very nice pace up front, and congrats to Austin on the big win (well done! Proving that hard work on the car often pays off nicely) and to the podium...and all finishers for that matter. A small victory just making it to the line with this one.

And on to the next one we go...

Crazy race!
Thanks Steve for let us know on Friday that you wouldn't race. It gave me the chance to feel the car before the real deal.

Qualify
Trying to balance time with the family and home improvements I got in qualify 15 min after it started. It was hard to put a lap, I didn't had a race pace yet, I mean race pace because you have to have constancy if you don't want to deal with damage. I messed up twice and had to spend at least 15 min fixing the car. Also I put some laps with full tank early in qualify to understand the car balance in first race lap and also in the end of qualify to feel how bad would be tire wear in the end of the race so I could compensate in the setup to focus in mid race and late race pace.

7:30 was the best I could, as David said Austin always has a gap ahead, and it is his merit. (with the BRM he would had gotten 7:20)Round 7 - Grosser Preis von Deutschland [Sept 9th] - Page 8 3108518133

Race
My gear ratio and lack of experience testing starts with this car didn't help me to get a good traction when the light went green. I think Coxon did a better start I left space waiting for his dive and try to undercut but I got collected by someone in the mess in T1.

I dropped to 20th and started to climb the grid.
The car was feeling ok despite the damage and I could pick different lines to put my car in good position to get good traction a try to overtake. Made some spots up and got stuck behind Janak. Coxon saw the opportunity and made a great move outside of Aremberg.

I had a good fight with Joha, is the Lotus 2 feet wider than other cars? He made it look like it was! Smile Great driver!

I met Wilks in the big straight and I could get a good slipstream to overtake before the bridge.

Janik and Ray were fighting and it made easier to catch them up. I overtook Brian in the exit of Exmuhle and had a tough fight with Ray. I was trying different lines to get better exits. At Hohe Acht I put in the outside but the track got narrow there for me. I broke a littler later than I should at Brunnchen and had to take the inside line to avoid a contact (unnecessary mistake), but had a good chance at Eiskurve.

My friend Pascal was 5 seconds ahead. I closed the gap and kept following him trying to push expecting for a small bubble that could allow me to overtake. At Pflanzgarten, he was at the limit and touched the grass with his rear left tire and had a spun.

David had more damage than me I believe and the year old chassis wasn't helping him too. He put a great fight until the Bergwerk. Looked like he was using less wing than me (notice in the previous lap) and he was fighting a lot with the car.

Grant was 13s ahead and I had clean track put push. Grant was thinking more in the championship and probably had damage and didn't see a reason to fight. Austin was 1 minute ahead by that time. I kept his pace until the end of the race trying to push him for best lap and maybe get some profit, but didn't happen.

Congrats to everybody who took the challenge and all who finished or mastered this great track.
I'm sorry if I upset people during the race, please PM me if so and I will try better next time.

Thanks for the opportunity.
I hope to get another car next race.

(Impressive recover by Placais after spinning early in the race.)

Yea that start was weird. On my screen it showed everyone missing the first turn and went strait lol. I didn't have a single car on my screen till after that first corner?

Btw thank you everyone on the compliments. :drink: I knew I had to go all out to stay in front. Had a few butt pucker moments but brought her home in one piece. :first:

A real privilege to be able to join you all for this race. Thank you.

Bit of a baptism of fire, but I didn't take the challenge lightly and spent a lot of time in the late evenings trying to get prepared. I probably spent too much time on setup rather than learning the track, but I eventually got something together that Citroen would have probably been proud of in the same era.

I entered qualifying a little late and didn't really have chance to try a lap until the end of the session due to the usual family commitments. And when eventually I did, I promptly relieved the car of two wheels and set fire to it. So it looked as if the car might still be getting repaired at the race start. Although I did reconnect once or twice in practice, I later found out about the stuttering when looking for tips in the other threads. So I just kept my fingers crossed that the tow/repair count down would get cleared at the end of qualifying.

At the start I thought it best to stay at the back to keep out of the first corner drama and deliberately held back. After that I found myself behind Timo & Bruno whom I managed to squeeze by after waiting for opportunities. They might have heard quite a bit of valve bouncing as I was constantly missing gears all race. I'd often entering corners with a disengaged engine, stomping on the clutch and throttle to get things running again. Especially where I was downshifting 2 gears.

The pass on Timo involved a lot of impromptu free-style hedge trimming as I tried to squeeze by. Apologies if I cause any problems there Timo. I think you probably weren't expecting me that side. I damaged my rear in the privet trying to avoid any contact but I don't think it made a big difference to my pace or the magic carpet suspension setup.

After that I attempted to catch up with the main pack. However, I was aware that it was unlikely as I was not on the pace in practice even with a McLaren. I didn't give up trying though, frantically fishing for a gear in my box of neutrals.

I was really pleased to finish though. Hopefully I can improve my shifting timing a bit for the next one. I assume the mod enforces a stick shift? I didn't seem to be able to use paddles on my G25. That is fine (I like the realism) but I just need any small advantage I can get it seems.

Congrats to Austin.
