Question pronostic la réponse est simple.

PostSubject: Re: Round 11 - Pocono RC   Round 11 - Pocono RC Icon_minitimeTue 26 Oct 2010 - 17:45

And the english version now:
IMSA is going north for this new round. After Connecticut and Lime Rock, after New Hampshire and Loundon, the drivers are going to Pennsylvania and Blakeslee for the Pocono “Tricky Triangle”.
In the paradise of the “just turning left” (well quite disfigure the paradise…at least for the Nascar’s ayatollah) we were given super speedways with infield (Daytona), super speedway with infield AND chicane (Talladega) and a speedway with outfield (Loundon). Here comes a tri oval with infield. This is also the last track we’ll discover as the last one will be already used ones.
Let’s be brief. This track is certainly the most boring of the season. It’s not that the tri oval isn’t great. It’s even the greatest thing that can be done with the “what’s this” thing with only one direction corners. It’s just the infield in fact. For zero interest with maximum risks it’s the one. It’s narrow, offering none safe overtaking point and give no attract to the track. It’s a hanging around thing quite short also. It’s like you’re in slalom or on a kart track. So it will not contend anyone. Those loving fast tracks will be frustrated by this meaningless infield. Those loving technical tracks will be by the ridiculously short length of the infield.

So let’s get a ride now. As it’s a speedway I’ve told at first “well, just uses the Talladega’s set...it should do”. Well bad idea. Very bad idea indeed. The gearbox is too long; the car was under steering in heel and was quite unstable on brakes. So, as far as T1, the car was already spinning and BANG the outside wall. Okay, okay (no I’m no Joe Pesci) let’s try another one. Let’s take Loundon one. And again…bad choice. For the count the gearbox was fine but the car was still instable on brakes. And it was then over steering. But glory halleluiah I get trough T1…at least quite as I’ve kiss for good the outside wall on the exit. So I’ve had quite a hell of a time to find a potable set for that specific corner.
So I decided then to have some laps quite slowly just to have an idea of the layout. Except that I need to go as fast as I can to really understand the how and about of a track. Okay just two laps then gerooooooooooonimoooooooooooo.
T1 is a full throttle one (with the RSR at least). But to complicate a bit thing, that corner, as T1 at Loudon, needs an optimum trajectory not to lose to many speed in it. To make matter worse the car is sliding nearly all along the corner. And so the front right tyre looks like a german on his first sun bath in Spain: it’s all red. I don’t know if the tires wear will be back for this one. If it is it will be quite a factor for victory as the cars will tormented that tyre.
On the exit give a gentle kiss on the outside wall and keep flat out toward T2 you’ll see in the far. Nice fellow that T2. Flat full the RSR is drifting 4 wheels and you got quite impressive sensations in there. The exit is really smooth and nice and then…
Well then you say sh……….., jump on brakes and do BANG in the tires wall obstructing the trioval. The T3 and the entry on the infield are quite bitchy. It’s THE great interest of that track in fact. T3 is a very slow corner. And the straight on exit of T2 is simply too short to brake correctly even with the 911. Can’t imagine the BUFF Vette. So there you get a glimpse of why that track is named “the tricky triangle”. So you mustn’t take the T2 flat down. Do it you’ll dead. You need to ease off the accelerator, fall in 4 and jump on brakes as soon as the car is balanced. Do it too soon and you’ll spin…too late and it’s the T3 you’ll miss (at best).
T3, apart the trick on braking, is a rather simple corner (5-4-3-2). It’s a slow hairpin in 2. The corner isn’t bumpy and you’ll get out of it easily. Oh I almost forget. You don’t see a damn thing on that corner. Either the radius or the apex are almost invisible. So you could lose quite a full of time there. I still don’t understand the trajectory as there is quite a lack of marks. You should be able to overtake there but you need to master quite well you car to avoid any fatal mistake. However, as the track is still wide there, you can use multiple trajectories here.
On exit, we’re accelerating (2-3) and reach a fuc… damned left corner. You got no indication on braking point nor the apex nor the exit nor the radius. And don’t miss it (and you will miss it quite a lot) as a straight depends on it (2-3-4).
There you could try to overtake. Well it will be at best hazardous as you’re arriving quite fast on the breaking point…which is quite uneasy to find. Well compared to T4, you’ve got blocks on the right giving you some marks…for the V8. As for the Porsche, you’ll need to brake between the two blocks line and the one block line (4-3-2). And don’t brake too late as the left corner (T5 and quite a fuc… damned one too) following is quite tight. And don’t miss the apex you’re not seeing at first or you’ll going to lose quite a lot of time…again.
And then comes a small straight. Here you can really feel how narrow is the infield. Someone driving on the middle of it will obstruct everybody. And then again comes a fuc… damned right corner. It looks like the twin of T4. The makers of the tracks don’t seem to have prone to imagination there.
New short straight and new left corner. But this one has a good visibility. It’s a two leg corner. The first part seems to be the twin of T5. At start yes but as the apex gone you’ll see the corner is continuing until the return on the speedway. You’re getting gas all along and must aim the killer tires you see then. Well at aiming I mean trying to brush it not to kiss it (don’t try you’ll never get out their grasp). And then you’ll again see you tyre temperature. Wooaw red hot, ready to serve. This looooooooong corner is putting your front right tyre to agony. ON exit you must try to lick as close as you dare the outside wall and flat out to T1 who’s going to overheat your tyre back.
On forecast matter the answer is quite simple. You don’t have the power, kiss your chance goodbye. There’s only one safe overtake possibility. And if you’re not straight behind your fellow on T2 you’ll get no chance. So farewell Porsche there. The Vette, as the BMW, will have no trouble outrunning or overtaking them on the speedway. Right behind the Porsche will only have tears or waiting for a mistake… only to be done again in the speedway. Big advantage then for Vette at Pocono. BMW could, however, have something to do. They must take as distance they can in the infield to avoid the inevitable return of the Big 8. So we could see at 95% the crowning of the champion in IMSA GTO at the end of the race.
