grats to mick and jan for the class victories!

i was so gutted when i disconnected, the race had been going so well (big thanks to Steve P, his set made driving the car fun), and then to be left with complete uncertainty to where the championship would go. sheer luck with the timing of the other retirements to let me still clinch. would have much rather crossed the line, but still completely overjoyed! :yaa: :champ: :yaa:

thank you to hso for the fantastic series and organization!

dave

PS> need some more of those jaguars!

Yesterday race seemed very funny when i drove together with Gerard, Mick and David J. It could continue further if i didnt make another senseless mistake when i downshifted from 5gear to 2 gear(dont know why) so i overrev my engine in it blew up immediatelly. .What a shame because i really enjoy the handling of Bmw. Congratulation to Mick nad Jan for their win. Congrats also to David. Very good pace in the second Bmw. What a shame he didnt finish. Neutral

You think? Well, I agree on like the first half an hour to an hour when I was still keeping Gerard and Mick at bay. But when I went off for the first time at the first few turns, it was an indicator that my tyres were starting to show their age.

I was starting to drift everywhere and could barely get out of the last chicane without burnouts.

At the same time, the Porsches just kept going at the same pace and didn't look troubled to go 50-60 laps on one stint Shocked

Also, was your fuel tank capacity 65l Martin?

If I didn't miss a fuel fix for my own car(apparently not, there were "updates" for Schnitzer and Alpina cars, although I only installed the second one), that's quite a hefty difference in range between the cars Surprised

Well, I could've still finished 3rd with luck, but I HAD to clip that kerb and only remember while rolling that self-righting is turned off(I believe?) on the server so there was no coming back.

I still feel like an idiot.

Tire wear in the 911 was noticeable, at the end of my first stint exactly at the 2nd hour mark I entered the pits with 1.5 red dots in the four tires and it was not easy driving it. Around 1/2 of the stint they had all been in yellow dots IIRC. I think the wear was similar to the BMW, but the difference is IMO that the 911 big rear weight bias seems to keep traction better with the rear tires more loaded, so it just becomes more understeery with worn tires. While the front engine BMW also destroys the front and becomes understeery, but then it has no weight on the rears and also struggless for traction at corner exit -i.e. a total mess.

Oh yes, I forgot my front-engined car was racing a VW Beetle!

Not to mention my setup probably didn't help the tendencies.

Tyre pressure: 180 at the start, changed to 190 at the first stop, back to 170(front)/175(rear) at the last stop.

Most settings default, except camber, which was -1.5/-0.5 I believe. ARB around 85/36 or something. 24 steering lock with like 320° rotation.

What fuel capacity did the Porsche have? With my 65l capacity, I had... less than 2l per lap? I thought I pitted somewhere around lap 41?

Yes i had also 65 L amount of fuel. Its a bit disadvantage against Porsche. My Gid counted 1.5L per lap but it was visible on the straight where the Bmw was like a rocket against Mick and Gerard.

I will never race HGTTC ever again until I get a steering wheel.

This makes me wonder, do the cars back then behave like that or the mod which is not correct???

You should really get a steering wheel, regardless of the mod. There are pretty cheap ones in the market and the difference is abysmal, you will never get back to keyboard.

BTW how many Axel Putras were on track yesterday? I never stoped overtaking one, sometimes even twice in the same lap scratch

Damn, 45l less capacity, that's hughe. Coupled with Mick being more or less error-free, we were never going to have a shot at winning.

I was expecting the RSR to boss the CSL on the track, but didn't expect to have much less range with it.

It was just too much of a disadvantage to gain back for me this time.

My top speed at the end of the S/F straight was around 240 kmph, when gradually turning from the oval to the infield it was around 190 kmh.

Also, as I kinda struggled a lot to shift well with grinding tranny mod and the gated shifter, I deleted the mod and went back to paddles :hihi:

David, you should look at the sensitivity of your brake, because it was permanently on.
Despite this you have the best lap time.

I think that were my rear lights... I turned my headlights on somehow and couldn't remember what button turned them off!

Not many, they were usually seen off track. :D

Axel, I can only confirm Alberto's advice. Get a wheel. It's a lot more precise, and probably safer for those sharing the track with you.

Hey,
I'm terribly sorry that I could not attend this race, but just before I wanted to get everything ready, our internet got cut off and I could just come online for about ten minutes. Hope you all had fun and see you all in 2017!

Well, I cobbled together a setup where my tires turned yellow about lap 25, but then held until about lap 65. I did some last second setup changes, dampers only, which felt pretty well after testing for about 10 laps. Unfortunately I put our Porsche into the wall, but after the neccessary repairs, the car still felt pretty nice for the rest of my stint. I can't exactly remember when the tires turned yellow, I remember the left rear going off first, about two laps later left front/right rear at pretty much the same time, so wear was very even. Our strategy was to drive until the left rear goes red, and then pit for tires and fuel. Due to my shunt we had to cut that to stay within the driving time limit, but until then, the car felt fine, absolutely kept its balance and was still able to do regular 2:00 laps, even with more than 50 laps on its treads.

My setup gave Juha a rough time in the beginning, though :aie:

Sorry it's late.........

Days leading up to race, and finding myself at the top of the hotlap page and with an unexpected gap to 2nd was causing me some anxiety, (I know most of the faster drivers were in the GTU class). I feared many were focusing more on a race setup. My race setup was only different with ratios.
So qualifying, and the gap got smaller, but in a "give no quarter" attempt to secure pole managed to find another .5s.

Sitting on the grid, waited Richard's instruction to start pace lap, but it never came?? rF instructed me to, but figured I was to ignore that......but Ryan pulled away, so figured I better too...
Managed to get round T1 cleanly with no threat, had some space behind as the bmw's and the rest of the RSR's battled for position.....once they sorted themselves out, caught me by lap 3, then spent next 4 laps watching my mirrors, Lap 7 Jundt got past. (Had I known he had a smaller fuel tank, I think I would have been less defensive). .......then into chicane Axel appeared to be "parked" on the right hand(T19) apex as David J was lapping him....I went wide, though Axel had moved by then, but Ryan and Martin got past......so just decided to stay as in touch as possible.
I was seeing more rubber being deposited than I would have like to have left myself.......I got to lap 25 before the dots turned yellow, I felt I could have done 88laps (my fuel range) before the tires needed changing.

Got back up to 2nd due to error, saw Jundt pit on lap 44, and though he was on some clever strategy........thinking I needed up my pace but the car was not having it, so carried on as before.....I could not believe how well it was going and what a comfortable gap I had (1m40s The biggest I have ever had on the few occasions I have been in the lead.)

into the fourth hour, small errors occasionally crept, in but nothing major....was getting tiref d though (had been up for 36 hours by now, thought I heard engine make gurggling noises as if it was going expire any minute.

Preperation, the race, and driving the car was so much fun. I wish there were more HGTC leagues(anyone?) or championships in HSO.

I was so dissapointed when the IMSA/SCCA74 was canceled in 2014.

Grats to Jan T on the class win, and David Jaques on the Gold Star Win
