For our 1973 Indianapolis 500, we will be using HSO 1973 Championship Cars v1.0 with this 1.0b update for Indy.
The race will take place on JP's 1973 Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Those drivers with older computers are advised to reduce their detail levels prior to logging on.
Race Day Schedule
Sunday May 31st All participants must have a car booked in the Entry List. Only the fastest 33 drivers from Time Trials on May 24th will be allowed to start (in the event that less than 33 have qualified, the remaining slots will be filled on race day, first come, first serve).
All times given are Paris time
20h00 - Warm up session for race (please select superspeedway configuration) 20h15 - Opening ceremonies and drivers briefing
20h30 - 1973 Indianapolis 500 | 200 race laps
Server no: 91.121.135.76:34600
Game name is: Historic Simracing USAC73 Password is: hso73 A training server is now running 24/7 (same password)
The following rules/procedures will be observed during the race:
The race will commence via a rolling start behind a pace car with the traditional eleven rows of three. Ben Paulet will be driving the 1973 Cadillac Eldorado Pace Car (pictured above). The following start procedure will occur:
- The race server is set for 202 laps, the extra two laps being the pace laps.
- All drivers, including Ben, join the grid during the countdown; Ben will be lined up in front with the pace car.
- After the countdown, the race clock will start, at which point the admin in charge of the race types "START FORMATION LAP." This is Ben's cue to start the pace laps; the field can roll away ONLY when Ben starts to roll away.
- Drivers are advised to conduct the pace laps in second gear; higher gears produce more turbocharger lag, making it more difficult to maintain grid position.
- Ben, cruising at apx 100 MPH, completes the lap, then starts the 2nd pace lap and at the backstretch the admin types: "HOLD FORMATION, GREEN NEXT TIME AROUND" so that everybody gets close, 3-wide and ready.
- Exiting turn 4 Ben leaves for the pits and the admin types "GREEN FLAG"
- This will be the only occasion where the pace car is on the track during the event.
No full course yellows will be used in this race, only local yellow warnings by the server when an incident occurs.
No pit speed limit will be enforced, but drivers are advised to enter and exit the pits in a careful manner.
Drivers exiting the pits must keep all four wheels under the painted double line until they reach the exit of turn 2, then they can merge with race traffic.
Behaviour on track
A few behaviour rules :
as for all HSO events, it is required you use your real name both in-game and on the forum. Thank you.
Chatting is STRICTLY FORBIDDEN in race session.
Shortcuts : If a driver gains a position after shortcutting a turn, he is required to give it back as soon as possible. In the case where a driver would not do it rapidly, a 30-second penalty will be added to his total race time. In the event of abusive and intentional shortcutting, severe sanctions will be applied (up to definitive a ban from the league). To make sure you never shortcut a turn, try to always keep two wheels on the track.
DO NOT enter the track under a red condition.
Qualifying engines are BANNED for the race session.
Application and Interpretation of the Regulations
The admins alone are qualified to solve any problems raised by the application and the interpretation of the present regulations.

It just arrived yesterday. The cup is metal, base is marble and the crystal thing in the middle is very nice. The little wing things are plastic unfortunately. It looks better than I expected.
I will be shipping it to the winner.

I've done some trial laps of the IMS circuit and it's a pip. Really looking forward to the all the give and take, ebb and flow. Somewhat disappointed to learn that there will be no full course caution periods as that was such an integral part of the Indy 500.
With respect to the track proper, I have a graphics problem. It's the sky. Those bright, white clouds. With eyeballs as old and as tired as mine, they really burn a hole in them. I've downloaded a couple of programmes to view the files in the mas files of the track in hope of isolating the bright clouds and substituting a texture which is more uniform, preferably cloudless and far easier to endure over a long stretch. Thus far, I've had no success in swapping out the cloudy sky for a clear blue one. Is there anything available that would help my pinpoint those textures? Anyone up to sussing this out for me? Much obliged.

I have the same issue. I deal with it by turning my brightness way down or I wear driving glasses. The glasses are the choice this time as it is a long race.

Might cause mismatch online. But you can change until an official fix is made.

If my math is right that will be 11:00 AM Pacific time here in California. I doubt I can do full distance, but I'll do some testing the next couple of weeks.

Thereal 500 had not normal full course cautions either, they had the "pacer light" system which was more or less like a local yellow all around the track based on lights flashing. Drivers were supposed to time themselves to arrive on time to the next light, if they did not they were going too fast. The pace speed was IIRC around 100-120 MPH.
Of course, everybody cheated badly on that

according the ("light problem") Jp his tracks are using the SRPL technique compare to mine or vlm conventional Hudson skies and skyboxi swapping just simple those sphere skies (look even worse) wont work cause srpl skies are horizontal images and this technique require lots of study to get it right, also to benefit the desired effect they need to be run on FULL detailes always which is very heavy on fps which all sprl tracks are and specialy with this mod that use them aswell the only solution is to torn out the skybox and replace it with a conventional one but i aint gonna burn my hands on this
put my Ray ban glasses on and race! (btw the pace car has front wheel drive )

The Cadillac Eldorado DOES HAVE front wheel drive in real life
The car is made to the specs of the specially tuned units used for the Indy 500
