- This vid with Parnelli and Bunser illustrates really well the good and the bad qualities of AJ.
I remember reading that anecdote in Unser's biography, yeah. No doubt Foyt was one of the most skilled racers ever, especially at ovals. But as Unser says, he was a plain bully outside the track (And coming from Bobby that is something ) and so burnt by his desire that everybody around suffered. I guess that a guy who feels like that will not take things well when he starts a physical decline and can't win anymore. I watched recently the 91 CART season, the last one he raced anything else than the Indy500, and his own driving level must have been a bitter pill to swallow back then. If I had to pick a favourite driver from the USAC/CART that would probably be Unser Sr. for his intelligence, smoothness and straightforward personal style. Mario however is always great, a gentleman, and IMHO was treated very unfairly when compared to Ronnie. Another favourite no doubt. BTW we should open a thread to discuss about the merits and bios of our favourite drivers. I guess Frank could teach us all about some less known guys that are worth looking at and admiring | |
