@Alessio:  it was on the back burner for a bit because I was busy with so many other things (teaching, admin stuff, etc)  I'm hoping to get an optimized version of the Eagle-Offy with driver figure on the FTP so David or whoever else wants to can start the physics process. In the meantime, the models are progressing Very Happy Very glad to hear you guys like the results.

Yes, this will be awesome when finished, the good thing about the 73' Coyote is with just a few 3D tweaks you can have A.J.'s car from 74' to 78', matter of fact you could model the years 73' to 79' and have something for rFactor no one else has ever done, each year in that era brought many dfferent inovations, but that's getting ahead, 73' is fine, keep going Jason, great work, this is going to be epic.

Made a lot of progress on the McLaren today.

This is the McLaren M16A; there will be two of these in the mod: Roger McCluskey and Salt Walther.
The rest will be M16B and C versions, which have slightly different bodywork.

This is probably the clearest footage of the Salt Walther crash that exists; shot by a fan with a Super 8 camera. Still hard for me to believe that he not only survived this accident, but came back to race in 1974.  A truly lucky man.

McLaren M16B in progress (main differences from the M16A are the modest engine cover and an air extractor bulge on the nose).  Two of these will appear in the mod --> #86 Al Loquasto (pictured below) and #89 John Martin.

I Was thinking the same thing a mirror that small and that high with vibration
would probably be near useless .... Interesting .... :hum:

IIRC the chaparral sports cars / Canams featured a similar one. And there was another closed prototype, can't remember which now, that even featured a window on the roof to allow looking at the high mirror Suspect

The utility of the mirror is questionable, but at those speeds it was just possibly used for a very quick check/glance. If it was bright there was no other car on the rear quarter, if it was dark there was one. Lack of radio/spotter must have been quite frightening in those days, at such speeds Shocked Situational awareness of those guys would rank alongside that of fighter pilot aces :cowboy2:

do you mean the Ferrari 512 S, That had a window to see the mirror on top of the car, And yes must have been bloody frightening racing at those speeds with no outside help (Spotter) .

Great work Jason, You'll make a lot of people very happy when you get this up and running!

McLaren M16C with the streamlined engine cover.  There will be four of these in the mod: #5 Gary Bettenhausen, #7 Johnny Rutherford, #12 Bobby Allison and #15 Peter Revson.  Still need to revise some engine details and make some proportional adjustments here and there.

The factory McLaren entries (#7 and #15) used the asymmetrical engine cover shown here. A slightly different kind of cover was on the Penske entries (#5 and #7)

Thanks John Smile Still refining the M16C engine cover and cockpit shape; this version is more of a straight shot to the rear wing and the front of the cockpit is rounder, based on what I've seen in video research. Almost there I think...
The C engine cover was not used in all cases, as the image below illustrates...

@Mike: I lost a lot of time on this project last year because of other commitments, so I am double timing it now! LOL. Still a long way to go, though. Parnelli, Atlanta, Kingfish and '70 Eagle yet to model. Plus the pace car...
