| Tried the course last night; man do I have a lot of work ahead of me! Most of the corners are second gear turns, which means the car is extra twitchy I would gladly welcome any tips or suggestions from the other members of the McLaren brigade... | |

| You need soft suspension at the rear to absorb the big acceleration, and at the same time moderate to hard bound and rebound to prevent it from unloading under the extreme braking from high speeds.
In the front you want harder springs and stiffer roll bar for good control in the high speed turns.
Start with the softest springs on the rear and add bump and rebound to increase stability under braking until the front becomes too unloaded at corner exit. Then add some rebound in the front.
Actually I think that the Watkins Glenn setup should be a good base to start here, except maybe some less rebound as the elevation changes are not so critical. My guess for starting would be springs 70/60 (Or even 60/60), front bump/rebound 4/4 and rear bump/rebound 3/5 or so. Put the softer antirollbars and get your springs/bumpers for acceleration/decceleration working, then change the roll bars and some front bump for the cornering.
When you have the basic balance dialed, add wing proportionally without unsettling it until you are starting to be slowed down.

| The most difficult thing for us "lesser mortals" to do is to actually differentiate when we are improving our driving, and when it's the car that has improved. The best thing is to get a quick baseline setup you feel comfortable with, and then work a lot on the track with the same setup, being sure you improve your driving to the max. You will know you are there when you can do at least 5-10 laps with times in the same second. Then, and only then, you can start doing changes, one at a time, to overcome the problems you identify on different spots of the track. Also, prioritizing between them: First work on the faster sections, where there is more time to gain, later on the slowers. If I wasn't so methodical in my setting up for the course, I guarantee you I would be 5 seconds down the slowest guy out there ... so crappy is my driving talent | |

| The track is long and requires mileage before knowing what should be your target laptime. My first timed lap was a 2'07, I've improved until I regulary clocked 2'04s laps, and then started to tweak the setup, to finally go under the 2'04 benchmark.
But my guess is that fastest times will be mid 2'02s.

| I would also recommend using 3rd gear instead on second in most "slow" corners | |

| By the way, the car is not tricky in 2nd gear, pedal to the metal and full opposite lock is the way to go with that gear. | |
