Long time sim-racer with GPL in the oAo league (Still my #1 league). HSO was mentioned in the oAo forum.

Hello, I've lurked in the shadows for a little bit and eventually registered last week. I had previously seen the HSO name in passing due to my other league associations but this time I came to check it for good thanks to the CART 1988 mod and chatting with Richard a few months ago.

Hahahaha, thank you. I began with GPL and don't enjoy most series post 2006, so it was only fitting! I've downloaded some mods already and got rF1 up and running so I can test things and see if I'm comfortable enough to sign up for a league. It's so weird replaying this after being used to the other modern offerings, haha.

When I was racing on RaceConnect and found out it's gonna end on December 2018, I've created a thread about searching for new league. Nikolay Bezrukov told me about HSO. Strange thing is he isn't there too

Was searching for the DRM mod for rF1, found a link to HSO. Signed up a few days after my birthday. Thought I'd maybe do a race then leave as I'd done in other racing leagues that didn't feel quite right, but everything clicked. Never did I think I'd be helping to run the place within 5 years.
Best decision I ever made

Mr. Bruno Chacon is the reason I found this place. Many moons ago, after meeting at R2P, we were looking for some endurance racing and others with a desire to simulate this stuff on a "higher level".
Obviously, we found it here. Man, has that really been a couple years ago

You can tell HSO is quite old now when you see there are fathers and sons racing here, but it will be REALLY old when you'll read someone say "my grand father told me about this place". Maybe in 2050, when HSO will be running an historic 2019 Formula E series

I just realised I never posted here...
...I stumbled across David Sabre's Formula Atlantic or F2 mod at some point, which I found pretty good, and that was described as being released by a modding team called 'Historic Simracing Organisation'. So I gave Google a job to find what other mods they made, and realised they aren't actually a modding team, but a place where people celebrate historic motorsport by means of simracing. Just right my thing. And I just came right for signing up to USAC '73...

The good thing about simracing is that we can keep burning virtual fuel with no risk of shortage or pollution

There is also a possible down-turn to simulating electric races. To do it somewhat realistically, we would all need two race-racks... and therefore may have to expand our houses.

In 2017 was looking for some classic CART/INDYCAR videos on YT and found whole series of simracing 1988 CART by HSO.
For the entire 2018 season I was following 1971 F1 and CanAm series broadcasts every time, mostly downloading the vids and watching them next day.
So the excellent quality YT broadcasts did the job

Subject: How i found HSO Mon 13 Nov 2023 - 7:11
Hi Everybody,
The short answer is through Jake's GPLaps youtube channel.
I re-engaged with sim racing during the Covid lock-downs when some the real-life racing such as V8 Supercars temporally switched to sim racing as their plan B for the season. then discovered just how much sim racing technology had advanced since i last were playing sim racing games in the late 1990s with Microposes GrandPrix 2 including editing tracks and cars, before my life got to busy elsewhere and had to stop. Then discovered Jake's excellent GPLaps channel which i have been actively following for the past few years.
I am yet to set up a sim rig, as i need to acquire a good PC and the right gear. but i have plans to do so and aim to classic historical racing some soon. but until then i am a fascinated spectator. I love the concept of historical racing thru sim racing, and being able to relive those glorious tracks and cars that is otherwise not possible in real life today, anymore. I relished Jake's HRRC series last year Smile
I am from the Bathurst region of Australia. Been regularly going to Mt Panorama since the mid 1970s sometimes assisting my brother with the recovery team. As well as F1 at Albert Park in Melbourne. i regularly involved with my uncle Glen who owns the Peter Brock 28c XU-1 Holden Torana that won the Bathurst 500 in 1972, and his son Dean (my cousin) who competes in State Hillclimb champs. He is currently champ winner again this year.
Cheers Gazz
