CART 1998 LAGUNA SECA

CART 1998 - Laguna Seca [July 18th] Laguna10

=ENGLISH VERSION=

For its third CART event of the year, HSO proposes you a recreation of the 1998 race on the famous Laguna Seca roller coaster.

The event saw Californian Bryan Herta first ever CART win on a track he mastered like no one else. From 1995 to 1998 he never failed to qualify outside the front row and signed 3 pole positions. But the win kept elusive until that year where he led almost every single laps, only to relinquish the lead to Dario Franchitti for 2 laps during a pit stops window. By the end of the race, Alex Zanardi, already crowned as the 1998 champion, kept Herta under constant pressure but was never capable of repeating his dramatic 1996 pass for the lead, and finished only 4 tenths of a second behind Herta's Ford powered Reynard. Brazilian rookie of the year Tony Kanaan also scored his first CART podium in this race, finishing third for Steve Horne's Tasman team.

Despite Alex Zanardi's domination, the 1998 season was a very competitive one. With 5 chassis builders, 4 engine manufacturers and 2 tire brands, the CART series was at its very best, and races were as thrilling as ever !

CART's open wheelers were true monsters, powered by turbocharged 2.7 V8 engines, good for 900hp in qualifying trim. Honda had the most powerful engine but Mercedes and Ford were very close behind, Mercedes having in fact a slight advantage in fuel consumption and reliability. Only Toyota was out of contention, as its engine was neither powerful nor reliable.

On the chassis side, Reynard dominated the season, showing its all around capabilities by shining on every types of tracks. However, Swift and Lola also had a good chassis. On the other hand, Penske completly spoiled its season because of its chassis, which never had the pace to be on front, especially on road courses. Dan Gurney's All-American Racers also had its own Eagle chassis (not present in the mod), but it was so outpaced they quickly decided to switch to Reynard.

About tires, advantage to Firestone, whose tires were more performant, more resistant and quicker to warm up.

Despite all those different combinaison, the field is still closely matched, not even 1.5 seconds separates best and worst combinations at Mid-Ohio for example.

For this event, we will use the CART Factor 1.0 mod for rFactor : => DOWNLOAD MOD <=

For further informations about this mod, I would recommend you to read its Read Me :
http://www.racinglinedevelopments.com/cartfactor/readme.htm

The track will be HSO's version of the famous Laguna Seca track made by Com8 :

=> HOTLAPS <=

Starting procedure

The race will feature a flying start.

Unlike most races we did this year, we will not start the race with a manual formation lap where admins used to give the race start themselves using the chat. This time we will use the standard game pace car during the pace lap. We will drive around the race course at approx 80kph, until the pit straight where the pole sitter will slightly increase his speed up to 100kph before the game gives the start.

First turn is very tight and slow, be careful, the race is long !

Special orders:

- As for every HSO race, drivers are asked to use their real names only, wether in qualifying or in the race itself - nicknames are not allowed.

- Chatting is strictly forbidden during the race.

CART 1998 LAGUNA SECA

CART 1998 - Laguna Seca [July 18th] Laguna10

=VERSION FRANCAISE=

http://www.racinglinedevelopments.com/cartfactor/readme.htm

=> HOTLAPS <=

That's not bad for a start Sanjin I think, those cars need lots of practice Smile

The most important buttons I use are :
- 1 button to switch the HUD mode, very useful to see your laptimes, the gaps with other drivers and modify your pit strategy. I also set 4 keys to navigate on the HUD menu while driving (up,down, left, right)
- 1 button for speed limiter
- 2 buttons to modify the boost setting (+ or -)
- 1 button to call the pitcrew before a pitstop (for a faster pitstop)

You can configure all these keys easily in the game menu Wink

I dont think so, all the new 1998 tracks are really great, but poorly optimized, even with all gfx settings at mimimum and DX8, I have 40 fps at some places, alone on the track. That mean it would go under 30 fps with a 20+ cars field ...
Most of the time, I can run rF at more than 100 fps.

Yeah, you can have the same FPS on a track in the middle of nowhere (or a track as awful as Loudon), and in a street track :hihi:

Rolling Eyes

There are plenty of street tracks where I have decent fps (over 70-80) who looks at least as good as these new CART tracks. Btw I deleted lots of 3D objects you cant even see while driving, and have now over 90 fps around the whole track.

Sure, you have done so much tracks that you know how things should be done. And I'm not talking of putting tires everywhere.
There are the objects that can be seen from camera views. That's what makes the difference between a ICR2 track which has ZERO object around the track, and a 2010 track.

Wink
