There is a story, but I can't remember it.

So I'll just say that Bobby Unser wasn't the only person who thought Sam was wrong.

The only story I know is that Sam and Peter had a disagreement about something at the Riverside Trans-Am race in 70 or 71 and Peter took Sam down over the pit wall. I've also read that ti could've gone either way, as most observers thought Sam was going to through the first punch as he seemed to be more angry than Peter.

Speaking of Sam, was sad to read that he suffers from Parkinson these days, and altough he is indeed pushing solid grandpa age now, it must frustrating since he is a respected plastic artist.

Looks like Champcarr wasn't the only team to tape numbers on cars.

Here is Rick Muther trying the qualify the #97 at Indy 73. You can obviously tell they have just taped over the 98 of Mosley's car. 

Wait until we get to the final round at Phoenix. Some of the cars are so cobbled together, it's like USAC meets The Road Warrior

Yeah there's nothing like driving surrounded by walls to estimulate the repair mechanic's creativity
