Yeps. Remembered Earl of Dumfries from a book I read on Senna. Dumfries was his teammate at Toleman or Lotus, I think. de Portago is referred to in Intersection Diaries. I read a book with some short stories on F1-drivers not too long ago. The exploits of Godin de Beaufort was one of them. Others were on Willy Mairese, Pironi, how Fangio was kidnapped in Cuba and can't remember the last one right now. Timo

I had not seen the picture before, very interesting. Was it Stewart's only F5000 drive. To find his laptimes and why he was driving it would be great.

| It's a McLaren M10B, it's pressumably the Roval at Ontario Motor Speedway in 1971. Stewert apparently had a test in it in preparation for the non-championship race held there, the Questor GP | |

| Questor GP 71. I'm assuming Stewart is practicing and getting used to the track. His Tyrrell probably hadn't arrived yet. | |

| I found this quote in this thread.
http://forums.autosport.com/topic/15973-the-1971-ontario-motor-speedway-questor-gp-merged/
"The Questor was a true case of hype. Jackie Stewart agreed to shake down a McLaren F500 for A.J. Foyt and pronounced it competative. Foyt's opinion of Stewart's setup was unkind at best."

| There was once a track in Europe whose banked turns exceeded the 30º of Brooklands and even the 43º of the Avus Nordkurve. What track and where? | |

| I visited that track this Monday! Was in Spain for Aragon's MotoGP race. It was an awe-inspiring sight to see that old banking, but I wasn't able to get very close to it. Lots of "beware the dog" signs around the premises. Still immensly cool though. | |

| Was old Fuji's 30° banked T1 the highest outside of Europe and in Asia btw, if we talk about banked tracks? I only drove it once at RaceConnect(either with this mod or the WSC '70 mod), a truly amazing but terrifying run down the hill. | |

1981, testing at Riverside. I often wonder what would have happened if Rick had gone to Formula One. He likely would not have won 4 Indy 500s, but he also wouldn't have had his crash at SanAir, and might have gone on to be the greatest American F1 driver in history.

| My Old Signature Quote was from Mears and it was about that very test.
He had been told to take it easy ont he F1 cars, as they were fragile. So he drove it easy and it handled terribly and was running slow times. So in his own words.....“I thought, ‘What’s wrong here?’ So I got mad and started driving the shit out of that thing. I started sliding it and pitching it sideways and bouncing it off and over the curbs. Then I got down to competitive times. I discovered you’ve got to change your way of thinking when you drive an F1 car. It’s a stand-on-the-gas, bang-it-off-the-curbs-every-lap type of thing. In that type of racing, you can’t pace yourself. It’s a flat-out deal all the time.”

| John Fitzpatrick, it was during the second iteration of the CanAm series in the early 80's. I think it was at Road America. Not sure of the year but i'm guessing 1983 as that was the "weird" year for that series.

| Figured so, that was a weird year. You had Jacques Villaneuve Sr. in a Frisbee-Chevy 5L, Jim Crawford in an Ensign N180 with a Cosworth DFV, and Fitzpatrick in a Porsche 956. Those were the 3 main contenders for race wins and Crawford and Jacques fought it out for the Championship.
