| Subject: [BETA] Group 5 BMW M1 (Non turbo) Tue 16 Nov 2010 - 16:02 | |
| While we finish other parts of the mod, I have decided to upload the Group 5 M1 so you guys can give it a try and see how it feels. It certainly is a quick beast! Some history: The M1 was originally developed for Group 4 and 5 racing, but a change in FIA rules demanded now at least 400 examples built before the car could be used for racing. While those units were being constructed BMW started using the Group 4 cars for the PROCAR series, and announced the development of a Group 5 turbo version with 850 HP (The Group 5 rules from the FIA allowed almost anything to be done to street cars, including adding Turbos and modifying almost all of the body). When the 400 units were reached, two years had gone by due to the initial problems with Lamborghini, and the M1 had already been surpassed by some newer models from other makes, benefitting from the changes in rules. And worser even, the Turbo version was not even ready. In view of that, BMW shelved the turbo project (Which was completed by private teams, but never became succesful in racing except in Japan) and decided to try an enhanced Group 4 M1 in some events, like the Nurburgring 1000 kms. The resulting car was obviously no longer Group 4, but had to be entered as Group 5. Driven by Piquet and Stuck, it had nearly 100 kgs less weigth, nearly 500 HP (Non-turbo), adjustable differential lock ranging from 75-100%, and some other minor adjustments in suspension and brakes. The car was succesful in the the Nurburgring 1000 kms, winning in his category and in the overall clasification. Download link: http://www.mediafire.com/?aafqa8wtna89gn6 The car: | |

Is this car in its own class in addition to the 3rd season we have planned ... Yes it will be a different class, FIA Group 5, but the car will also appear in our mod as ordinary Group 4/PROCAR with proper specs in the 2008 revival season. I discovered that each car (3D model and skin) can have as many VEH files as you want, which will give the car the same model and skin but different characteristics, depending on which HDV the VEH links to. So this Nurburgring car, for example, will appear in our mod and race against the PROCARs with the same PROCAR/Group 4 specs, but then if you switch the player profile from the PROCAR to, say, FIA Group 5, then you will find again the car, but this time in Group 5 specs. This all only requires a small plain text file (The VEH), so I will do it for all cars that in real life were updated to different specs, like f.e. this Nurburgring car, the Motul Rally car (FIA Group B Rally), and the Red Lobster one (IMSA GTO specs, which was more or less equivalent to FIA Group 5). This should easily allow users to customize their files and race the cars against the vehicles in other historic cars mods with same rules specs, or Le Mans, etc. | |
