Round 8 | 1960 Indy 500 - Gasoline Alley [rF2 | May 3, 2020]

This one will be one of these 2020 races that will remind our long-time members of our early years, as this very same race on rFactor "1" was the very first HSO Open Event back in May 2009. Due to its length it will surely be a pivotal race in the title race, and remains, regardless of points, one of HSO's most sought after classics.

EVENT RULES

---

- No chatting during the race or qualifying.

- For this event, we will use the Free-for-All car attribution method, as per the HSO Sporting Code definitions.

- Every driver is free to book any of the available cars, attribution being made on a first-posted / first-served basis.

- Points scoring will be as per the HSO Gold Star rules for events 2-6 hours as follows: 10-8-6-4-2 to the top five.

- We will have a rolling start after a formation lap.

        — To prevent chaos the start will be 2 wide, not the traditional 3 wide.
       — Stay back from the pace car, it tends to lag a lot!
       — Absolutely no passing before the start finish line.
       — Stay about 3 car lengths back from the car ahead of you. Those that hang back to rocket past
           everyone at the start will be DQ’d

- The race is on a more modern version of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and will utilize the default Corvette pace car (this will be corrected before the race if possible.) We are running this as a Vintage auto collector race like you would see in recent times.

- In qualifying you will have 1 pit exit lap, 4 qualifying laps then 1 pit entry lap. You will have 10 minutes to qualify but only 1 attempt. Leave the track after 1 + 4 laps when you get the checkered flag or you will be disqualified by the server. Your fastest lap will be your qualifying time.

- There will be NO YELLOW FLAGS as this race is already going to be a marathon. If you car is extremely damaged (especially if you lose a wheel) leave the track immediately. Do NOT try to limp back to the pits in a nearly undriveable car as you could ruin someone else's extremely long race.

- Pit entry and Pit Exit - When exiting the pits you must stay off the track until the exit of turn 2. When entering the pits you should stay low on the track coming out of turn 4 so other drivers realize you are pitting. Do not chat during the race to say things like "Pitting next time by."

- Weather will be a constant 17 degrees C and overcast. Weather Plugin is disabled.

19:00 - Free Practice - 30 minutes only
19:30 - Qualifying session (4 Laps - private - fastest time) 10 minutes maximum
19:40 - 19:45 Drivers' Briefing - Stay off track during the briefing!!
19:45 - Race Start (200 laps)

A training server will be running 24/7 (same password).

FYI - as far as I know all cars are identical. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

Maybe in-game version of Indianapolis called "Brickyard" (identical layout but better graphics, not so oversaturated colors) has no "issues" ?

Once the line gets defined you will like the version we chose. It is a tad bright (as F¥§$) when green.

Mike, 4 hours is a lot for those who work early the next day, can't we shorten it?

Shorten the sacred Indy 500? Do you want to be ?

Maybe starting the whole event a bit earlier might be an idea, like 20 CEST for the start(45 mins earlier?).


Gotta admit, with no cloud cover, the track is incredibly bright for my eyes by the way.

The clouds may roll in soon, good idea!

I will tweak the start times by shortening practice and warmup now.
