What a fun track!!!! Much better then Singapure F1 race this morning!!
I'm very happy finishing in 2nd in this one. It was a surviving race for me and it is going to be until the end of the season using the Lola T8700 in the next 3 road/street circuit. Dick Simon Racing saving all the money to fund Arie Luyendyk and Scott Brayton for 1989 season.
I knew Grant would be fast since the start, Jaques with the Judd engine would be head to head with me and Jundt would build up speed during the race too. I was there just driving-daydreaming when in the Carousel I got catch by the coast and my car started to rotate until completing the spin. Had dropped to 4th place. The car started to fell loose like if someone had pushed a button to cause that.
Just kept following Jaques from a distance until the pit stop. The team had done a good job putting me back on track in front of him. It didn't last long. He had a good speed and overtook me.
Just kept going keeping a good pace to see how it would play in the end.
Jaques had an off track at the keyhole and Grant I think crashed at esses. It was me and Jundt then. My late stint pace was great and I was catching him very fast. After the last pit stop I came back in front of him but wasn't as fierce as him in the battle, a lot of point in the table and Jaques wouldn't score a single point.
He kept the 1st spot until the end, the pursuit was crazy and fun to watch.
Congratulations
Jundt and
Jan
