they simply want to go back to pre 1993 with the fat wide tires, big wings
but with tiny steps every gotdamn year, just make them once and for all again like
the golden era from 1983 -1992 with flat floors and f1 is back where it lost her soul after 1992 with all those idiotic tire and wing reducements, planks barge here barge there bla bla bla etc etc

'97 to '98 was worse...

Though the nerds in here will certainly come up with a number of other mentionable monstrosities of GP history to debate that claim.



While I see where they are coming from, I question if the return to the pre-80s full width wings will get help the problem of overtaking. Designers will soon find their way to guide the air around the wheels again within the new rules, and then we are right where we started again...

Well, you have just desrcibed current Indycar. Except for flat floor, as they have an underwing. And it works very well. Btw, the next generation of engines will be a combustion motor (no electo bullshit) with a LARGER displacement than what they have now. Hard to believe in these screwed times

The best way to prevent aero effects from hindering overtaking and cars running too close is ground effects. Sadly they are also dangerous, in F1 the were banned long ago for that, but in Indycar with reasonable rules they worked well, same as with Group C. F1 were too stupid and selfish, they just believed it could not be made to work safely or their engineers would find a way to make it dangerous again or whatever. And nowadays they are trapped in that old thinking, just because they have been taking that for granted for so many years ...

They will stick at that until some comes and has the power and guts to scream BS and break the vicious circle.

Well, don't blame the engineers using the stuff they got at their hands to do what they are supposed to do: making their cars faster. Of course, they got an excellent knowledge about what's going in in and around the car, and how the car behaves in traffic is only a second thought to them. But it has always been that way, the ideas are old, but back then, they lacked the means to have a really detailed look at such details. It was more something that was decided by intuition and the stop watch. Things changed, when CFD came into the game.

Its a privilege of spec racing series to design cars in a way to keep a certain distance off the absolute performance to facilitate racing in a pack. But honestly, the whole speced and boped 'racing' entertainment show is increasingly boring me away.
