The Silver Fox has left us A great competitor and likely the most iconic driver of the Wood Brothers #21. 105 career wins, second only to Richard Petty. And most memorable for the wild finish of the 1976 Daytona 500. RIP sir

Damn he was good. For a few years in the 70's, he won NASCAR races on request. But he never ran for the championship, because he had already done that. So in 1973 I think he entered 18 races, finished 14, won 11 and never ever finished worse than 3rd. If he'd wanted to, he'd be more successful than Petty, but he was too cool for that.
