| Merci. Les stats de Wordpress ne semblent pas fort bien fonctionner alors. Pas de visite de la France listée hier. Timo | |

| Guess everyone that objected to having their name in the reports get mentioned with the driver that drove the car in real life. "Siffert's pockets"? I'd say Porsche funded it for him - Quote :
- "Plaçais was passed Jundt again".
That's not quite grammatically correct I'd say? It should say "Placais passed Jundt again". I think you can only use it the way you did if you said "Jundt was passed by Placais again" as the passing was done by Yves. Otherwise, you'd have to use past, as in "Placais went past(through on him, overtaking) Jundt again" or, as you probably intended to write, "Placais was past Jundt again into XYZ place." Sorry for being pedantic, but I do read your reports with pleasure

[...] Nope, that was actually Sifferts show, with some co-funding by Josef Hoppen of Porsche/Audi USA, but Stuttgart had nothing to do with organisation, funding or running of the team. They loaned Siffert the car, though. Hoppen's involvement was his personal activity.

| Then later they got interested themselves to conquer America?
I wonder if Siffert himself would've sat in one of those beasts the next season, had he lived into '72...
Still, as Seppi wasn't rich, must've been rather rough to do Can-Am.

Still, as Seppi wasn't rich, must've been rather rough to do Can-Am. Siffert's CanAm endeavour was a pretty small operation: Himself, two mechanics, a rented truck and a rented workshop. Still by the time of his demise, he was in 2nd or 3rd position of the championship. He got full parts support by Porsche, though, and most likely some information and feedback of the car went back to Stuttgart. But most likely, Porsche had already CanAm in their sights and were working on something completely different. Siffert also tested the prototype 917/10 with the turbo engine, which was running since first half of '71, when his schedule between WSC, F1 and CanAm allowed for it. Siffert and the '72 CanAm Porsche... interesting to muse about. Already back in '69, John Wyer proposed Porsche a CanAm-programme, as it would give them something to race when the WSC season was finished. Porsche wasn't completely uninterested and Wyer knew both about the 5.4l-engine, as well as the 7l flat 16 being in development. The later stalled, as it upset the balance of the car, and when Wyer came up with the idea of Porsche loaning the cars and Gulf Research helping with the development, Porsche declined, saying they had no capacities. They offered to sell Wyer the desired cars, though. Wyer passed, but surprisingly, Porsche had the capacities to loan Siffert a car. The relationship between JWA and Porsche was never an easy one... ...and then, there was Roger Penske, who tried to ring up at Porsche as early as 1970, after seeing the performance of the Gulf-917s in the Watkins Glen CanAm race. Apparently he didn't get the right folks on the line. Then, Penske prepared a 512M for the '71 WSC season and impressed Piech by flogging the 917s on raw speed (and of course the immaculate preparation of Penske's cars). The Ferrari just lagged the perseverance to finish the races. At Le Mans '71, Piech and Penske made an informal agreement to run CanAm the following year. From the beginning, it was clear that Mark Donohue will be Penske's driver, and without a doubt, it was the race driver and engineer Donohue, together with Porsche's Helmut Flegl, who made the turbo 917s work. And then, between the first and second race, the team went testing at Road Atlanta, and in an incident frightenly similar to the one that claimed Bruce McLarens life, Donohue was out of commision for a while with a broken knee. George Follmer took over, and Donohue certainly didn't like that, but that's the point where one could speculate if Jo Siffert would have had a chance for a seat in the t/c 917...

| Some pics have been added to the Riverside-report.
Also googled a bit in relation to David's comment and, if my understanding is correct, the comment was not pedantic but correct.Passed is always a verb, past an adjective, noun, adverb. In the sentence concerned, I guess past is an adverb and should thus be past. Has been updated in the report. I may have to carefully reread all the others...
So, I guess, for now, work on the Can-Am season is finished. On to the F1... and the M1's... maybe.
