Mainly because we do races in real time, and 24 hours has seemed so far excessive. Also because there is a prosecution due to legal rights to anyone on the web staging such events.
But who knows ... maybe somewhen

There won't be a race like that because with the default physics and the level of crashing we have seen lately, i doubt the race would even last 2 hours

Indeed because of f....g rights ACO, there won't be 24h Le Mans. And seniors admins don't like the accelerated time.
But maybe a 24h of nordschleife is possible... No, I joke it's a lot of much work to organize and manage the race.

In 2013, I raced with the THR guys in the P2 class for the RDLMS 24H of Le Mans.
In 2015, I raced with EcoFriendly Racing in the same class at the VEC.
There was no issues about rights...
I see leagues doing 24 hours races, so I don't know where the problem lies exactely. Do you want to make it look as real as possible, and the ACO wouldn't want to see that?

To do the race with HSO standards we would need to have a real time race. That means, as in real life, 2-3 drivers per car and the need to open the event to people outside and promote it all around. Loads of new, unknown people pouring in, loads of publicity and potential problems with the ACO, with Porsche and with anyone interested in keeping their license under key. Plus a huge managing task, the question mark of wether the server and the game can really run for 24 hours without crashing the race and the event becoming the hugest let down in simracing history. And wether our own drivers can commit to such a long race bypassing real life limitations, family etc.
Of course you can run the event with one driver per car and make it 2.4 hours or so -but there are other leagues for that. HSO exists because we strive for realism, we fill that niche in the community and are not here for the sake of doing whatever races happen to look good, historic or not.
Having said that, it is also true that in the silly summer period we have been running some loosely historic or even fantasy fun events (Not counting officially in your statistics here), so indeed this is a type of race could happen like that. Stay tuned when the summer approaches as the admins will usually ask people about preferences for fun events.

VEC(Virtual Endurance Championship) is doing all that on rF2, minus the historic aspect. The URD GTE cars have fake names, but everyone calls them openly by their real names.
They are already in their ninth season I believe, but have never been contacted by ACO or any manufacturers it seems.
And during the last 24H race at Spa, the first server crashed like 3 times, yet people still come back.
The difference is probably that VEC has enough people to host such endurance events, HSO not, no?
