| Well, After much practice I find myself off the pace by at least 15 seconds fast lap and more like 20 seconds average lap. I am also finding it very difficult to establish anything like consistency. These things happen when you get to be my age... <sigh> Therefore I must withdraw my entry in this race and offer up the car to someone who can drive her. I'll be watching from the sidelines with pride and chagrin. Best of luck. Norm | |

| I've also big issues with consistency. Still don't really love the track and it's not helping. THE big trouble is now the chicane after the straight. I'm loosing sometimes one to two second a lap there. And I don't understand why. I was tabling on a 2.04.xx in race. Well don't think so as my last trials were more around 2.06.x with some laps in 2.04.x. The worse part of race will be the middle of the run. There the car changes entirely his behaviour and start becoming almost undrivable in fast corners. Those cars are perhaps for someone too easy to master (sure that's not a well done as Cart or Endurance) but's on a long run they are quite tricky and changing. For what it's matter as nobody will ever do a 1970 Sports Car Championship reanactement (the Targa Florio don't even exist as a track) | |

| The 917 will win. They are faster than any others. The 908 could have won this...but the race is ten kilometers too long. For this distance the 908 must do a refuelling. Any the test I've done said so. The first to refuel will be the 917, then Alfa and Matra, then Ferrari and Lola and finally the 908. Everyone will have to do at least one refuel. I'm not sure a two refuel strategy will be a good idea. The pits stop takes more or less twenty seconds...a bit long I think. But who knows? As for a GT40, Carl, well this car is really a mess. Even Guillaume couldn't beat me on Matra with this car (at least I hope so ) Also beware of collisions between cars. Even a scratch on the body from a car collision could alter the behaviour of the car. Better hit a fence than hit or be hit by another car with this mod. I've also note a tendancy for the Alfa to blow quite easily their engine if push a bit to hard...same thing for the Matra also..you've been warned | |

You make the Alfa sound like an accident waiting to happen ,thats it im on a mission i want the Alfa to see the chequered flag ...

I don't know that it matters but you could contact motorfx and see if he could whip you up a modification for the track without the Ascari Chicane, I did a few laps just blowing through there and the course is a bit more fun with these cars. Would not be a lot of work BTW, move some cones, modify track texture a little, new AIW. Edit It would be historically accurate that way too. The Ascari Chicane didn't get added until 1972. FWIIW

| Salut tous,
Je commence l'entrainement as we speak.
A+

You make the Alfa sound like an accident waiting to happen ,thats it im on a mission i want the Alfa to see the chequered flag ... Well Carl the Alfa 33/3 was a car with trouble in 1970. It has a powerful engine but it was a fragile one. The drivers more than often blew it up. It also lack of developments (the Alfa team wasn't very efficient in car management). The first year of the car (appeared in 1969) was rife with mechanical problems and fabrication defects (causing the death of Lucien Bianchi at Le Mans). So 1970 was indeed a season of running in for the car which get ready only at the very last part of the season. During that time the car was plagued by many engines problems (camshaft, oil pressure, blown engines). The car was only fully ready for 1971 (winning at Brands Hatch, Targa Florio and Watkins Glen).

Hmm, I'm not convinced of that. According to my testing, consumption is just above 2 l per lap for the 908. To be on the safe side, with no pit sheduled, I would need 130 l whereas I can only take 120 l. However, the 130 is with a safety cushion, so 120 l may just work... even if very very just and with the risk of having to go for a splash & dash in the last laps. Then again, splash & dashes are typical for (North) American racing-series and after all we will be in (South) America, so what the heck ... I tested with full tanks and hard compound tyres last night and was less then a second off my best lap on softs with 65 l on board. Changing tyres costs 40 sec. Still have to test whether fuel is added together with the tyres or whether refueling costs extra time. In the latter case, trying a no pitter becomes a strong option... And even without extra time for refuelling, I'm thinking about it. Timo
