Any recommended steering wheel settings, like rotation to be used? Moving arms look a bit comical when using 320° rotation and 12 lock.
I currently feel like I am not doing fluent wheel movements.
Should it be used with RealFeel or generally okay with in-game FFB?
FPS at Sebring drop a bit low on the S/F straight on higher settings.
Gotta test a bit more though.

Can some brave person run a full race distance to see how fuel and tyres last. Probably best to use a McLaren M8F.

I would not mind doing one in the 917/10 if that helps. Does it have to be online? If so, I would rather do it on an open track like Road America or something similar.

The Porsche will be of help. Offline is ok, on any of the championships tracks.

I fancied doing that with an M8D at Riverside. Just to make sure I use the right version of the track: in which folder is Riverside located? I have a 65 USRRC map of tracks, is that the correct one?

I set out to do 80 laps at Mid-Ohio in the Shadow, eventually settled for 40:
Tyre wear was no issue, lost half a dot off the fronts, one off the rears. Started with a full tank (70 gallons), had 55.3 left at the end My best time was 1:27.6, most laps fell in the 28s or low 29s.

I did half race distance at Riverside with a McLaren M8D and came to the same conclusion as Jukka on tyre wear. My fronts were like brand new, the rears had lost almost a dot.
I used 2,80 litres lap so the fuel tank is more than large enough to cover a full race distance.

Ricardo will tell better, but I believe there were no strategic pitstops, as in F1 of the time. Tires and fuel lasted the whole race as pitting to change them took too long.

I don't know, I whipped out an online calculator and it said 5.71 mpg or 41.2 litres/100 km. I initially forgot to take into account the fact that racing line cuts some 10 or 15 % off the lap length (or so I recall having heard ) and you spend a fair bit of time either coasting or on part-throttle at Mid-Ohio, so I guess fuel consumption is well in the ballpark.

Peter Morgan mentions in his Porsche 917 book that in the 1970 Watkins Glen weekend, Jo Siffert ran in his WSC-917 quicker than the CanAm-McLarens, but was beaten by a few metres by the fact he had to pit for a refueling stop, while the CanAm cars didn't have to (Saturday was the 6 hours and on sunday the CanAm race, which featured the top running WSC-cars as well).

I guess it makes sense then that for example the BRM with a 7.6l engine(V8) uses slightly less fuel than the Porsche with a 5l engine(V12)?
At least my test gave me slightly worse fuel mileage.

Thank you Austin!!!
I just trimmed nearly 10 seconds off my Non-Porsche PB in the March using your tips.
Couple questions though, about Sebring specifically.
You're running a 2.00/1 Gear in the Shadow, I tried it in the March and couldn't get out of 3rd gear, is this correct?

Nice video, great tips Austin Hope you run the season with us, this time there's no yellow flags to oblivion
Other than that, I think we need some more rebound travel at the front so that the front inside doesn't lift so much off the ground. That's of course what you get for using a stiff front ARB with rather soft suspension, and many old cars show that treat (There's lots of pics from vintage Capris and Alfas with the front inside 2 feet off the ground) but still these are sports cars that are lower and wider so probably shouldn't lift it so much. Would also help a bit with the understeer

Normally bigger engines will use more fuel, but in the end it's all a function of how much fuel is sucked into the cylinders per minute. A smaller engine that revs higher can in the end move through it a bigger volume of mixture, which means more fuel use. Also, engines that are squeezed to the limit might need extra fuel that acts as coolant, but which is effectively wasted and non completely burnt.

I also think the 917-10 had two turbochargers bolted onto the base 917-engine. Which does in general not reduce fuel consumption.
