It was cramped yes, the pedal space was that small the drivers had to "rest" their foot over the clutch as there was no extra space to rest their foot There is a video of Jackie Stewart testing that very car, and complaining about the comfort.
If you want realism it could be fun, but i will feel sorry for you after 30 mins!

Blame Adrian Newey. Not exactly a champion of ergonomics in race cars.

That's the one
Yes his fault, but i bet any driver of the era would jump to drive one of his cars, cramped or not

So it was the MP4/10 being so bad, and not Nigel Mansell simply being to fat?

Newey was at Williams at the time. So, to answer your question: both.

I know it was just a ploy on Senna's part, but man, it's fun to think about what might have been.

I think there's little doubt that he would have won a lot, Penske team and Senna was a killer combo. He would however IMO not have trunced Andretti as he did in F1. Beat him yes, but not dominate as easily. The only other question in the back of my mind is how his aggressive driving woulod have worked in ovals. I suspect he would have had one or more big shunts.

See, you're thinking along the same lines as me. Let's pretend for a minute that he did come to IndyCar. I think had he made the switch, he would've been done racing within 2 years, forced to retire due to leg injuries or he would've been killed in IndyCar. I think his aggression would've gotten him hurt on an oval. Hurt bad, much like Piquet, probably worse.

You people make me laugh , Mansell was no Senna, was even more agressive and prone to hurt himself, and yet, he won the champ, won on ovals, and almost won at indy in his first try!
Senna? Walk in a park for him, poor andretti and everybody else, the guy was just in another league.
Did you miss the part where they say that Senna was faster than Emmo and Tracy in the test? And Tracy saying what set him apart from the indy drivers of the era?...
Don't get me wrong, there was talent in indycar back then, but Senna is one of the best ever. I have no doubt that Prost, or even a fit pre 87 crash Piquet would as easily trounce everybody on the indy field, with the exception of Rick Mears and maybe Rahal, two world class drivers. I am to this day convinced that Piquet's crash was due to some failure, and he himself alluded to that more than once.
Michael, Al Jr and etc, they were good, but they looked better in a very average field behind them.
