nice topic...lot of memories. I started with Commodore 64 and some airplanes and racing :-) first game I ever played on that was World Games. Then F-14 Tomcat, F-29, ace of aces....
Then comes the first PC with Aces over Europe, Sensible world of soccer, Championship manager 94/95 and SIlent Hunter 2. In 2004 I accindetaly found some GLP Demo...and it changes everything. I bought a wheel and finaly start online racing...NR2003, GTL, rFactor. I fell in love with GPL long time before 2004 but only by seeing that in some magazine...and it took way too long until I was finaly able to try by myself.
Beside all of these veterans here I am in fact a simracing newborn :-D

This was actually my first ever racing video game, for the ZX Spectrum. Memories ...

Good one on the board games Richard, Antoine is a fan of those and has some awesome ones, including some vintage stuff !
NES and Commodore were really another world, I know almost none of the games you mention Jason and Karel... CM94/95 being the only exception there I guess.
ZX Spectrum haha ! My dad had a ZX-80 but the only game I remember on that was some sort of Space Invaders in black & white lol. But then he brought the first PC home and gaming started to get better . The first game of this era I played extensively was Microsoft's Decathlon :
You could have up to eight players in the sam game, and you could do the races by pairs of two. The sprint races consisted of typing alternatively two keys as fast as you could (simulating left and right steps), and this game is what gave me my keyboard gaming skills I think . I stuck to keyboarding up into the early 2000s when I bought a racing wheel, but never had joystick in my PC gaming life. Even on GPL I played on keyboard for many years !

A question for all you championship manager fans then, which teams did you choose to manage? From my memory most of the detail seemed to be more biased towards the English leagues.
For me it was always my local club for me, Sheffield United

OMG I played so many CM01/02 games with so many teams ! Early on it was with AS Monaco and Arsenal FC, but it soon got too easy with those big teams. My favourite games were with Queens Park Rangers (coz I lived in their neighbourhood when I was in London) and most of all IFK Göteborg with which I won everything possible in a game that lasted until 2060 or so . Lots of fun with the African national teams too. The great thing about this game is you got to play anywhere around the world and all the championships had their particularities and exotic features, so I also had good ones with New England Revolution and Boca Juniors .
Funniest thing about this is I hate football lol. But this game would have been about handball, curling or whatever I would still have played it, the gameplay was just perfect for me.

Since we are talking about games that we played a lot back in the day, not exactly car related, i used to be pretty much into 2D fighting games, starting in the arcades and after that at home. I played the hell of Mortal Kombat II, street fighter alpha or the King of fighters and SNK fighters series.

I played IK+ on Atari 520ST with a friend, it was funny. A little bit of street fighter, but mainly in 3D like Tekken and Soul calibur on PS 1&2. And before that, Barbarian on Amstrad.

Oh dear,
Well, starter drug was the aforementioned Grand Prix Circuit. The world was black, white and some inbetween (Hercules Graphic Card), and some other stuff on that old Commodore PC I can't exactly remember. Then came a 386 in the house, and with this one at my hands, a lot of time went into Indy 500, Civilization, Indycar Racing 1 & 2, had a blast with Syndicate, played a couple of the old Microprose flight simulators, and what pretty much stretched the limits of the 386, the original Microprose Grand Prix. Next came an AMD K5, and a lot of time went into US Navy Fighters, Dungeon Keeper, Command and Conquer and the original GTA. Relatively soon thereafter, a K6 went into my possession, and some time went into Falcon 4.0, and a LOT of time into Grand Prix Legends and Sportscar GT, the later got me into modding. And somewhere around that time (~2000), I got my first steering wheel. Next was an Athlon, still a lot of SCGT and GPL, for a while Colin McRae 2.0 and Nascar Racing 2003, had a blast with No One Lives Forever spent a good time with Operation Flashpoint and a lot of time with F1 Challenge '99 - '02. The next computer, I can't actually remember what it was, because it was the first computer since the K5 I didn't built myself, but was rather a 'my old 'puter died and I need a replacement fast' purchase. Well, the Athlon almost lasted 8 1/2 years... First contact with rFactor, but didn't really click yet. Still F1C, for a while pretty intense NR2003, GTA3, Vice City & San Andreas, as well as MS Flight Simulator 2004 & X. The latest computer is the one I'm using now and is an AMD FX. rF finally does it for me, as does GTR2, had fun with Test Drive Unlimited for a while. GTA IV could be fun if it would run properly... And there's a lot more I played over the years, but the one I mentioned before are the one that pretty much got stuck on my mind.
