| TBH I think the IMSA raced at Bicentennial and Bayfront Parks, not at Tamiami. But those ones are even worse _________________ | |

| IMSA also raced at New Orleans. A massively challenging layout... The race footage ranks makes even the Meadowlands look like Spa in comparison. _________________ Join the current HSO team as we move to ISO in 2020!http://historicsimracing.123.st/t4220-important-announcement-for-the-2020-season | |

| Yes of course Alberto you are right, Tamiami never hosted IMSA and Trans-Am, my bad. I kinda liked Bayfront though, some epic racing back there with the GTPs !
New Orleans was dreadful indeed, as were many IMSA street tracks - that was clearly the weak point in this otherwise rather awesome series. _________________ Thou shalt not train.

Michael you seem to have great taste in racing, you should indeed get your head into modelling again . Ben started modelling literally from scratch, and with the help and guidance from our fellow HSO modders he has now blossomed into one hell of a modder - you could beneficiate from the same help if you wanted to. - Ben Paulet wrote:

I don't know what is your modding level, but I started following a video tutorial (learning 3ds max with Camaro as car model). Even a little brain as mine could understand the base of 3ds max, so if you have some free times and interests, let's go. And indeed, HSO modders can help you to every step of your work. We have 2 great modders in our league. Well, modern racing leaves a bit to be desired, but historic events at Spa and the 'Ring, I'm always game Shortly after '73, sports cars became a bit ugly, though I released some stuff back back baaaaack in old SCGT days, then I worked for some teams in F1C, but got a bit out of touch with progressing technology. It wasn't before 2010 I got a computer capable of handling rF. I've got the neccessary programmes here, but its really a steep learning curve. _________________ Real men drive pink cars!

There is an unfinished mid-to-late 50s sportscar mod for rFactor, featuring the D-Type Jag, Aston Martin DBR1, Ferrari 250 TR I think and Porsche 550.

Understandable, I've had some testing with some Mercedes and Ferrari at the Avus track and I love them!

GPL 1955 races in 2018 maybe? You know, as a "Happy 20th Birthday, GPL!" thing? BTW: Absolutely adore the "brake fade" feature Great job by the guys who made it

Everything is possible yes but a bit early to make any plans. The fact that the mod came out doesn't necessarily means it kicks ass for one thing, although knowing who did it I am confident it will do just that . _________________ Thou shalt not train.

| The brake fade really enhances the racing! I have started to understand how to set the cars up: have it super loose on entry, as soon as you go off the throttle you should go sideways and scrub off speed that way. Otherwise, the brakes won't last two laps on most circuits. I start to appreciate more what Fangio said about his drive at the 'ring in '57, how he said he tried to take every corner a gear higher than normal. That, with the brakes of the time (IIRC the 250F still had drum brakes then), must have been otherwordly. In the championship I'm running (at Pro Short, 45km-85km races), I have added Torino, the 'ring, the Watkins Glen street course, Dundrod and the old Brno road course to make it a full 11 race GPL season. I'm doing it with the Vanwall, since it has disc brakes, which cool down faster than cars with drum brakes. Only Connaught also have disc brakes. So far I crashed at Buenos Aires and Torino, came 5th in Monaco and won at Spa! Here's an interesting excerpt from Piero Taruffi's book The Technique of Motor Racing on how to work the brakes: _________________ "I'm going for first!" Anyway more insight about the mod guys? If I figure out how to record from the game with my software, I'll surely try and make a short video about it But everything that's necessary to know is on the mod's website. | |

| The Gordini, as you may expect, is a shitbox! I tried it first, since I figured it's the lightest and least powerful, it should also be nimble. Wrong. High centre of gravity, drum brakes and obsolete suspension made it quite wayward. But it does have a clock on the dashboard, which is a nice touch. With drum brakes, keeping the brakes cool on a slower circuit is very, very hard. They overheat in two laps at tracks like Torino and Monaco. Not as big of a problem on the big road courses though. Spa is such a joy in any car! I'm about to finish my season in the Vanwall, which is quite a docile car. No real vices there, but it does have disc brakes. It can bite when you get it too sideways, but I don't think the Italian cars would be any easier on the limit. The next season I do will take any one of those. More power, less sense. _________________ "I'm going for first!" "...the man's an animal..."Happy and proud 1988 CART Champion! ~ 2017 | |
