| Phew, I need a shower. The Maycock/Swindells Lancia is putting up quite some stiff competition for our team. All fingers crossed for Juha to carry this one home, and hopefully in the right position Though I might have taken us on a bit of a tactical disadvantage at the last pitstop, having called for some timeconsuming repairs. Mostly pretty good driving out there, and the Lancia is a real joy to drive. We need more Group 6 cars I'm just not pleased at some of the guys at the slow end of the field. | |

| Crashing out with a second brake failure on the fastest part of the track - poor Nimrod in flames.
I've been far away from braking at the limit most of the time, always keeping brake temps below 400°C - please fix this or add the possibility for additional brake cooling.
Else this championship makes no sense for me.

| Matthias, your car was already fixed. If you didnt last, you either had too much brake pressure, were pushing too much, or a combination of the above. Brake pressure i recommend something around 85% or less.
I warned i was going to make them last longer, but not make them indestructable.

| Tonight's been a good work-out, if a bit disappointing in the end. The Nimrod is one heavy car, so not totally surprised about the failures. Matthias, your pace was great, very impressive lap times with the harder tyres! But it does seem we overestimated its abilities over a whole race distance! I noticed early on in my first stint that the medium tyres wouldn't last. I did my first pit stop much earlier than what I had had in mind, but at least the fuel economy was good. But yes, we were too hard on the brakes, I presumed so early on, but still didn't lift-and-coast enough. It was a lot of fun seeing how people's strategies would play out, too bad we couldn't be there at the end. 'til next time

I warned i was going to make them last longer, but not make them indestructable. XD tool showed, that only the left front brake disk was fixed, which exploded first. Front right kept the wear, round about 80% (100% = new) So it was only a matter of time, when front right will also fail. They shouldn't be indestructable, yes. I don't think lowering brake pressure will help a lot, because you have to brake longer, so the amount of heat is nearly the same.

On the upside though, it has the best sounding engine in the mod (and it could be worse, some of the drivers signed up for tonight never got the chance to jump into their cars )

| So, to sum it up: - One destroyed C6 - One failed front left brake - Finished, P4 Still amazed by how retardedly I planted my car(or the rear end) into that catch fence. Should have locked them earlier to spin around or go around behind it. Even I fail once in a while, guess I had that day today @Jonatan, David J and Mick: You rock! Thanks so much! | |

Mostly pretty good driving out there, and the Lancia is a real joy to drive. We need more Group 6 cars I'm just not pleased at some of the guys at the slow end of the field. That didn't work out as planned. We'll have to hire Lauda's monkey next time. When I saw your 176 second stop, instead of the planned 76, I knew it would be a tough job. Add the 60 second repair job Jan had earlier and altogether we lost about 160 seconds fixing the car. We lost out by 2 laps, which is 160 seconds. And we lost 1 second a lap over the last two hours because I was driving. When I left the pitlane and I realised my force feedback was far too strong. Reset didn't help so I was stuck with a car steering like a truck. By then I wished I had switched back to 360°, rather than the 540° I ran today. I could stick to the other Lancia's rhythm, but closing in was impossible. Then my steering wheel locked, came back, and suddenly the force feedback was back to normal. After the driver change in the other Lancia, I lost even more ground. There was no way I could keep up so I let it go. Congratulations again to the winners, and the lapped drivers who gave plenty of room. I'll apologise for not flashing back, the Lancia has no headlights, and it's not too fast on the straights when you don't keep the revs up when exiting a corner so I probably got in a few people's way after lapping them. Thanks to my teammates for the work they've done. Michael and I now lead the championship. Next up is his homerace. We'll obviously aim for a good result. 3rd at Kyalami, 4th an Otario, 2nd at Monza and Silverstone - sure we'll have to win an endurance race sooner or later.

yeah, and i think that the repairs changed nothing for the car behaviour. I had a yellow front wing before & after, car was feeling understeering after the damage. If its not simracing, i would put myself headlights on the car. Some guys were really gentle while lapping. Some just know that i could outbrake them so the time loss were minor for both cars. And others were driving their own race without having rear mirrors. Well but a 2nd place is okay, i am pleased that my PC and GID has worked, so lets go on.

| As you say on the most part people were very courteous with letting the leaders by. Some even a little too much. I think its much easier if the slower lapped cars stay on their line and try not to get out of the way. Much more predictable that way. Especially for the next race at the Nordschleife!

So you'll join us at the Nordschleife on the back of this podium finish? I will do the season with you both if you drive every race, but perhaps start with a group 5 entry at Nordschleife. Have to test the cars in the next weeks

| A disappointing disconnect at the driver swap from the Chacon/Whited team. Initially chalked up to the dreaded rFactor driver swap disco glitch (or whatever you'd call it)...now I believe that it was an amateur mistake on my part. After further reading into the procedure of driver swap I found that I had the "factory default" setup loaded to "current" (that's the default) and had multiple test setups in my files. While one cannot "load" a setup in spectator mode, one can "assign" a setup to overwrite the default, thus making that setup the "current" setup. Essentially, though it caused us no problems during the many times we practiced it in the days leading up to this race..I believe that was the problem during the race session. As soon as I got the "Go" signal after the swap, we were both taken to desktop. I believe it was the fact that the setups did not match. So...down but not out. Live and learn, do it right the next time. Looking forward to finding a seat or two for the Nurburgring. Also, apologies on behalf of my teammate for the punt, Dana. I believe he had acquired some damage and was also struggling with a braking issue at that time. Never really an excuse for it, but then again, I wasn't driving the car, so couldn't really say exactly what happened. Grats to all the finishers and podiums. ....now, just to discover which version of the 'Ring I should be training on. VLN it is until that is learned.

This is also likely the cause of brake problems in several cars, as the setting returns to the default brake pressure (100%).

| Perhaps. So, this has me wondering how many actually "assign" the set to "current". After assigning a particular set to current, it stays that way...so, if you leave and come back, the "current" loaded setup will be yours rather than the default....Essentially, it makes your set the "default" set.
But...then I'm also wondering if that is the cause of the kick to desktop then...because if others aren't assigning the set then perhaps I'm off base with my assumption of the cause of the issue.
Either way, I will be assigning the set to all drivers next time around and will attempt it that way. I am optimistic that this was our issue. If that's the case, then there is hope. All I can do now is wait and test it under race conditions.

James, Raul and myself paid particular attention to having exactly the same set assigned as default. And made sure that set had the same file-name for that set on all our systems. We even send around mails with a renamed file less than one hour before the race and downloaded and assigned the mailed file to make sure we had identical sets in that respect. I always understood that this, even if it seems futile, greatly helped to avoid disco-issues when swapping driver. Another thing we did, is set the number of pitstops in the setup to 0 and in the plr-file set the refuel option to relative (i.e. "1" in the plr-file). Both of these also seem to help avoiding disco's. Kind regards, Timo

| great race all!
just to comment on the setups assign and driver swaps. both races so far, both mick and i have payed particular attention to having our setups named the same (exactly, case too), and making sure they were assigned as default.
the other key i point i think, is to make sure after a swap, the person who finished driving needs to make sure to use the passenger select to "stop riding" before disconnecting. otherwise the next swap might not work.
here is the post that we used to figure out what to do, it is included in the original post of each of the WEC event threads (just above the entry list).
http://historicsimracing.123.st/t504-procedure-de-changement-de-pilote-drivers-swap-procedure
love these endurance races! i know it can be a challenge, and introduces some finicky issues, but as a group we are figuring it out quickly, and the races will only get better.
best, dave | |

Lapping really worked well for most parts, it was just two Gr.5 cars that happened to act a little random out there. Part of it was IMHO lack of situation/spatial awareness, part of it being overwhelmed by the cars and performance difference, and finally being somewhat unsure what's the right thing to do. - Jason Whited wrote:

That is one thing I'm happy we did a driver swap test shortly before the race. I hopped into the car, and it just didn't feel right, nor I've been able to get up to speed. It reminded me to make our race setup a default.

| Catastrophic overlook on my part. I should have read further into that portion of the swapping procedure and failed to because of the success in practice. I did, however, notice that the car would feel "off" when we would do the swap, like I was getting a car with the default setup, but I didn't have that assignment procedure in mind and didn't drive the car enough during swap testing to note the difference...was more focused on the swap. A mistake that definitely will not happen again.
Also, thanks for the tips on reducing discos and the other input on this issue guys. Much appreciated and duly noted.
