| Pre-Season Testing --> DOWNLOAD MOD <-- --> DOWNLOAD "A" PATCH <-- --> DOWNLOAD TRACKS <-- In preparation for our 1973 USAC season, we will be running a test server from March 5th through March 19th. We encourage all interested drivers to test a variety of cars and see what they like. This will help you make informed decisions when car selection opens on March 12th. The server will be open to all classes of cars, with both early- and late-season physics. A variety of tracks will be available so testers can get the full sense of a car's capabilities. Any questions or comments on car performance can be posted here. Server IP : 91.121.135.76: 35900Server password : test73**Remember to use the correct chassis configuration for each track**Indianapolis --> Superspeedway Trenton --> Speedway Michigan --> Superspeedway Low Drag

| Haven't had a chance to get down to my desktop and download this stuff. But what are the HP numbers for the Top Offy teams Pre and Post Pocono?
I know Pre-Pocono it was 1000hp, how much power was cut with the Boost limits?

| There were no boost limits imposed until 1974, but teams were conscious of fuel limits in the second half of the 73 season. You'll see subtle differences from pre- to post-Indy. | |

| So it was mostly Aero limits then? I know the rear wings were considerably smaller.

| and that was all it took to make the Foyt engine competitve?
I was thinking they did more..I could also be mixing 73 and 74 together.

I was thinking they did more..I could also be mixing 73 and 74 together. The main thing that helped the Foyt engine cars was the fact that Offy runners had to cut boost back to make it on the fuel they were allowed. We will be mimicking this in 500 mile races by imposing pit stop limits.

Do you mean fuel stops or fuel stop limits?

Sry. My head is going 1000 directions this AM... Not all races will require pit stops. Some are short enough that they will be sprints (for example, the Ontario support heats).

You'll recall that during one of the Trenton heats last year, several of us gambled and made it with no stops because of all the yellows.

| True, but I'm hoping this years Trenton races are not going to have a yellow flag every 3 laps for the first 60 laps. But I know what you are getting at. Yellows can play a big factor. | |

I was thinking they did more..I could also be mixing 73 and 74 together. After Indy 1973, starting round 6 onwards (Round 5 Milwaukee it was not yet applied) the changes were: - Wings trimmed down in size (Around 12-15% downforce loss on the rear). Because the drag was also reduced, the cars went even quicker at open superspeedways like Texas, and at the rest they had similar or slightly lower speeds because softer tires were produced to compensate. With the smaller fuel tanks car stopped double as much as before, so tire wear was not a big concern. - Only one fuel tank at the left side of the car allowed, with only 40 gallons (All cars had previously one 40 gallons tank on the left and a 35 gallons tank on the right, so they just closed the right side one) - The total fuel limit for the races was lowered to 300 gallons. This had no effect on the normal races, but for the 500 miles races it meant that Offenhausers had to run lower boost settings. At such lower boost settings the Foyt V8 was more efficient and produced more power for the same fuel consumption. That gave it an advantage in those long 500 mile races, but not for qualifying, where the Offenhausers could produce enormous amounts of power for some laps. For the 1974 season, the rules above were kept plus the wings were further reduced in size and a boost limit of 80 inches enforced. That definitely gave the Foyt an advantage in all conditions, as the Offenhausers could no longer produce more power in race or qualy trim.
