| I had a bit of time this week to laser scan some models. I'm quite happy with the results as it helped a lot with the nose and engine cover areas. I used the laser scanned model as a 3D template for making my own much lower polygon count mesh. The grey is the Laser scan and the pink is my model. | |

| Hey that's cool, it would be useful for me as I'm not good at judging proportions. What are you using to scan and create a mesh from the clouds ? _________________ http://newarchive.simjunkies.org/discussion/9582/asj-f1-1982-race-4 | |

What are you using to scan and create a mesh from the clouds ? Faro Platinum arm with a Faro laser scanner attached, Geomagic Qualify to create the point cloud and save as a polygon mesh.

| An update of what I have now. I still have to make the underbody and check the rear flip-ups. | |

| Wow That's brilliant! I imagine it reduces the modelling time a fair bit? _________________ | |

| It helps because you don't have to wonder about this little part or that rounded edge, it's the best reference you can get. You gain the time you spend trying to find reference pictures, or refining the part. But it can't make miracles, it doesn't turn a rookie into an expert, unfortunately And I don't think the device is cheap either, in case you're wondering That looks like a late 80's IndyCar isn't it ? _________________ http://newarchive.simjunkies.org/discussion/9582/asj-f1-1982-race-4 | |

| That is fantastic David. Scanning really is the answer for balls-on accuracy and saving modeling time. _________________ | |

| I gathered it would be expensive. Are you going to scan the other 2 models you have as well, or is this just a one off experiment? _________________ | |

Are you going to scan the other 2 models you have as well, or is this just a one off experiment? Yep, I have scanned the other two models so it will be a three off experiment, time permitting.

| Double mirrors in the previous image. I will move this modelling work to the Factory now and leave this thread for discussion about laser scanning models. Here is an interesting laser scanner although it can only scan 165mm x 165mm for 499 euros. http://www.rubitech.org/ | |

| I always thought that with the laser scanner we'll obtained good results in even in the world of simulation race , this is the end result with a "3d blueprint" , excellent work Dave, as always (Luigi 70 ) | |

| Update. All three of the plastic kit models were laser scanned and used as 3D blueprints. Below are the 3D car models. Penske. March. Lola. I am now working on the 87C, 86C and T8700 3d models. | |

I'm not sure if there will be demo version but there are likely to be test versions for the physics. There is still a lot of work to do with the physics and making all of the skins.

| I've done a little bit of work on the mod. All of the car models are complete and I've made a few more skins. | |
