Wanted to stop in to say hello and introduce myself.
Love what you guys are doing keeping racing history alive and after browsing around really dig the way you all carry yourselves with dignity, class, and respect.
I'm a short track paved oval fan but my love of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the 500 Mile Race go very deep as my grandfather served in the Indiana National Guard with Pat O'Connor and lived in Indianapolis for a long time after WWII. Growing up as a Hoosier, the 500 was always a very big part of our Memorial Day weekend even if we didn't go. So you can imagine that when I saw the HSO 1973 Championship Cars by Jason, it blew me away. I only hope that I can get it to work well enough on my low end machine to participate.
As I grew up, I became a fan of supermodified racing and that eventually morphed into being a free-lance columnist and photographer for Dick Beebe's MARC Times Racing News out of Michigan. That then evolved into me moving to Oswego, NY to be closer to supermodified racing and I eventually became an announcer for the International Supermodified Association, the Midwest Supermodified Association, the Supermodified Racing Association. I also served on the board of the SMRA for two years.
I started a website called Wing Side Up, ( www.wingsideup.wordpress.com ) in 2001 and then found out about sim racing from a buddy and fellow supermodified fan out in California in 2002.
Together we started the Supermodified Ultimate Pavement Racing Series or SUPRS, ( www.suprs.net ) in 2004. Our focus is on supermodified racing and for many years we ran NASCAR Heat with mods done in house, (after about 2006), and only recently made the jump to rFactor.
I'm here mostly to learn and make new friends, but also to find someone to help with our league when it comes to modding. I've no clue really and our modder left because of a very busy life in the military. We've certainly fallen behind the times after 10 years of doing just Heat, we're way behind the curve.
Thank you for putting together such a cool organization and allowing me to lurk around and pick some brains for info!
