may i recommend the admins change the tire smoke value in the TDF for all tracks
the transams will smoke alot in drifts and braking and to avoid a blinding smoke curtain for others
its very easy just replace the line underneath into the "ROAD" sections in the tdf
also the most realistic instead of the hughes clouds like a engine blows up , you have experienced already at some tracks we raced with the btcc65 :hello:

( this value all tracks should use for tire smoke)

Reaction=tiresmoke Tex=smokewhite.tga Max=512 Scale=(1.5,1.0,1.5) Growth=(1.0,0.5,1.0) ASDEnvelope=(0.2,0.2,7.5) DestBlend=InvSrcAlpha SrcBlend=SrcAlpha

Just tick off "special effect" in your rf graphic options to get rid of the annoying smoke Wink

And editing all the tracks because one mod does it wrong isn't the way to go.

think you guys misunderstood
it s not only for this mod but for any mod
Most rfactor  tracks doesnt have the right realistic tire smoke like i use in the whole 60strackpack
just  thought its make it much nicer  and also realistic for everybody, its just a mather of  copy and paste  that line , nothing more.

i can do it if know what track will be used  just np at all and hell i run full options !! ha
try it yourself at one of the tracks ( riverside) of the 60stracpack and then see what you think
groupC F1 and specialy trans-am , man its so much better and awesome to watch!

just want to help to spice it up that s all

looking forward to this great season :champ:

I think its a great idea, besides, u cant race in a smokescreen for 2 hours anyways.
And i dont like just turning special effects off, u should see smoke when someone locks up or spins, even powersliding, but that smoke should be subtle. And its seems like an easy fix.

Can i do it locally without affecting online errors?
Also there are no tracklinks yet for TA so people cant do this yet.

Would be cool to have a TA server up, i am excited as well and cant wait to get these muscle cars underway.

You can also use a custom smoke graphic in your own install that is less dense (Can't remember the name of the TGA right now). Will not affect anybody else, won't cause mismatches, solves the problem and you can still use max detail and effects.

Yes indeed I won't go through the trouble of changing this as it really is a minor thing which can be easily modified to your liking along the lines Antoine or Alberto suggested. In my opinion most mods got this wrong on rFactor, even TCL which is probably my favourite (of the non-HSO made/modified ones ^^) mod out there. I generally find most of such effects in rF1 dubious and unrealistic anyway (sparks, skid marks, fire, exhaust flames, ...etc.) so I cut the special effects settings down long ago. Was glad to see they got it right in rF2 though Smile .

The race topic for Lime Rock and the training server will be up later today Wink .

well i tried to help but shut off effect in rf1 is realy nonsense ,it takes 1 second a track to do this for only 11 tracks before uploading them. for so much more immersion it can't be hard or difficult to benefit not me but you all!
however i wont start a discussion or argue about this again just wanted to HELP and improve it by just a very minor suggestion and im willing to do it for you if I knew what track it is but reading above the decision had been made.

all i can hope for is  that the 73 usac tracks will use this advise

François,

I believe you are correct but typically, in my opinion, HSO tries to minimize track updates and patches to minimize information conflicts on race days. Every change made increases the potential number of problems (track mismatch, connection problems, etc.). In this case I think the point could have been made more politely by some (Frank was very professional, others not so much) that although your point is good, the choice has been made to defer to the user to manage the issue with their in game settings.

I think your suggestion has value and I thank you for the information. Glad you posted it, I need to yank down my special effects to a much lower setting before tomorrow!

-Mike

Thanks for the offer and for being helpful François, you know your stuff well and your work on tracks is great :top: I'm sure your suggestion makes an improvement, but with the sheer amount of tracks used in this league, and many people using the same install to race elsewhere it can quickly become a leviathan. Keeping things simple is a long term benefit: Frank, Martin, JP and all the senior admins have loads of experience and I tell you, whenever we have discussed alternatives or made suggestions, 99'9% of the times we end up concluding that what they chose at first was indeed the best option Smile

To expand a bit on my point of view on this. Agreed it can take very little time to do, but when you consider the many many things we have to do daily as admins, well sometimes even the smallest additionnal work seems like just too much of a burden. And if the file editing does indeed take very little time, you still need to do thorough checks in-game just to be sure, if possible with different cars, you can eventually run into the odd glitch and so on. So as often with such things the time you end up spending on it is gonna be three or ten times what you thought it would be What a Face .

To be honest I can see two dozens other things I would like to do before tweaking the smoke effect and I don't even have the time to do them. Also what I meant with rF1 effects is that I had played with the tire smoke settings a few years back and although it of course reduced the outrageous wall of smoke thingy it never got to a satisfactory level imho as I think most modders got it wrong (i.e. tires lighting up where and when they wouldn't in real life, dubious or ugly looking smoke gfx, ...etc.). And now with the fabulously immersive effects in rF2 I have even more the will to spend time on such things on rF1 as it's never gonna be nowhere near as good as what I have seen in the new version :smil20: .

Having said that, we're always open to suggestions, particularly ones going into more realism and immersion, so keep them coming guys :top: . But we would also appreciate if you (not speaking of you particularly François, just a general remark there Wink ) could take our first answer as a definitive one, as having to go through the burden of explaining things down to the last detail can sometimes take the fun out of being an admin and in the long run is a big contributing factor to the proverbial burnout :D . I, for one, am just recovering from a major of those burnouts so I am even less inclined than I would have been a few years back to go into lenghty posts on such subjects. The present post being an exception to the rule I guess geek :hihi: Wink .

I know I said the race thread for Lime Rock would be up today, but I had an unexpected call for work today (and I don't have too many of those these days that I can afford to turn them down :aie: ) and when I came back this evening my internet was dead and came back to life only a few minutes ago. But don't worry the race thread will be up before Sunday night for sure Smile .

Mr Smartass,
Sometimes, you say politely to some people that you don't have time for their numerous requests (as Frank said, it'd still cost time to admins or maybe myself). You say it once, twice, three times, but patience can wear out. And then the short refusal answer comes because it's tiring to go in lengths to explain the same thing over and over to the same people.
