1998 CART Championship Series

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

CART Factor mod

For this championship we will use the CART Factor 1.0 mod for rFactor : => DOWNLOAD MOD <=
and the following patch : => DOWNLOAD PATCH HSO 1.2 <=
For further informations about this mod, I would recommend you to read its Read Me file : [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Car Selection

The 29 cars featured in the mod are available. The four models of chassis (Lola T98/00, Penske PC27, Reynard 98I and Swift 009C), four makes of engines (Ford-Cosworth, Honda, Mercedes-Ilmor, Toyota) and two brands of tires (Firestone, Goodyear) make for a total of 11 different chassis/engine/tires combinations.

Car selection is free. However, admins can refuse a car to a given driver if he is judged too fast for it or if his simracing level is unknown.

Each driver must keep the same car for the duration of the championship. Changing of car will be tolerated under exceptional circumstances only.

A driver missing two races in a row without any explanation on the forum, will have his car freed and made available for someone else to book.

Championship Rules

The championship will be run over 18 meetings, held on three different types of tracks : road course, street courses and speedways. Races on road and street courses will have a 2-hour maximum duration limit.

Points System

CART points will be given to the first twelve of each race on the following scale : 20-16-14-12-10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1.
One (1) bonus point will be awarded to the driver having made the pole-position.
One (1) bonus point will be awarded to the driver having led the most laps.

As for all American races, all starters will be classified and are eligible for championship points.

There will be one drivers’ championship, as well as four additional cups for teams, chassis, engines and nations. All results will count at the end of the year (no dropped scores).

Qualifying

On road and street courses, qualifying will consist of one 90-minutes session held immediately before the race.

On road and street courses, qualifying will consist of a one-lap shootout held immediately before the race.

On speedways, qualifying will consist of a two-lap shootout for each driver. This 5-minute session will be a "private" one as per rFactor's rules, which means each driver will be alone on the track although everybody will run simultaneously. Each driver will be allowed a maximum of four laps : one warming up lap, two qualifying laps, and the slowing down lap. Any driver covering more than four laps will have his qualifying time disallowed and will be put at the end of the qualifying order.

Event Schedule (Road and Street courses)

All meetings will be held on Sunday nights (all times given as CET)

20:00 – Free practice (45 minutes)
20:45 – Qualifying Shoot-out (private session, 5 minutes, 1 flying lap)
20:50 – Drivers' briefing and warm-up
21:00 – Race start

Race server password : hso98

The start will be given flying behind the game-controlled pace-car.

Event Schedule (Speedways)

All meetings will be held on Sunday nights (all times given as CET)

20:00 – Free practice (45 minutes)
20:45 – Qualifying Shoot-out (private session, 5 minutes, 2 flying laps)
20:50 – Drivers' briefing and warm-up
21:00 – Race start

Race server password : hso98

Race Start Procedure and Full Course Yellow (En français en dessous)

The start will be given flying behind the game-controlled pace-car.

This series will see the appearance of the Full Course Yellow procedure. When rFactor judges that a situation is risky (a car stopped on the track, a spin on a speedway etc..), he will throw a Yellow Flag. From the time this Yellow Flag is thrown, overtaking is forbidden, but if you have doubt about your position, rFactor will tell you where you have to be when you will cut the start/finish line. At the same time the pitlane will be close, it will be open again for the cars in the lead lap after one full lap behind the Safety Car. For the car which are a lap or more down, they will have to wait another lap. rFactor will anyway tell you in the chat all these informations (don't deactivate in-car chat).

When the Safety Car is out, you must keep a normal pace until you reach the the line of cars behind the SC. Otherwise you'll get a penalty. Same when you exit the pitlane under yellow, you have to be quick enough to rejoin the SC.

Full Course Yellow will last between 3 or 5 laps each time.

/!\ On oval track the leader will have to be careful to not overtake the Safety Car when the latter is exiting the pitlane. /!\

Drivers must be on a single file for the restart.

*** VF ***

Training Server

A training server running on the next scheduled track will be online permanently. Password : hso98

Behaviour on track

A few behaviour rules :

- as for all HSO races, it is required you use your real name both in-game and on the forum. Thank you.

- Chatting is STRICTLY FORBIDDEN in race session. It is allowed in qualifying sessions for technical issues only.

- Drive Through : If a driver has to do a drive through, even if there is no pit lane speed limit, he has to drive through the pitlane at 100km/h max (60mph). If he doesn't respect this, he will get a 30s penalty at the end of the race.

- Shortcuts : If a driver gains a position after shortcutting a turn, he is required to give it back as soon as possible. In the case where a driver would not do it rapidly, a 30-second penalty will be added to his total race time. In the event of abusive and intentional shortcutting, severe sanctions will be applied (up to definitive a ban from the league). To make sure you never shortcut a turn, try to always keep two wheels on the track.

- Respect the red light at the end of the pitlane.

Application and Interpretation of the Regulations

The admins alone are qualified to solve any problems raised by the application and the interpretation of the present regulations.

Sorry forgot to ask, do we need to re-download the mod if changes have been done to the rfm for the yellows? Or is the mod we last raced with at Portland good?

I´ve been racing this mod for some years now, and one important point to consider is that many cars share the same pit while in the race. I guess the RFM file must be modified to avoid this.

It's normally an AIW thing.
A track that has 1 car per garage (instead of 2 like in a F1 track) shouldn't have a problem of sharing garages.

Once the yellow is thrown is overtaking on ANY part of the track forbidden, or only AFTER you cross the finish line or meet the SC? This is called "race to the yellow" in some real racing rules, meaning you are free to race and overtake until either you cross the finish line or meet the safety car, which you obviously can't overtake.

It's pretty clear to me. You won't be allowed to overtake.

There might be an exception if the car you're trying to overtake is too slow because it was in an incident, hence the :

It's the sim that handles this, so you won't be able to argue :D

I also understand it at first like that, but was wondering because that might depend on these parameters:

Quote :
// Whether order of vehicles is frozen when the full-course yellow is first shown. If necessary, server will
// correct the order as people cross the start/finish line; default=0, possible values 0 or 1.
FreezeOrder = 1
PassingBeforeLineOval=3
PassingBeforeLineRoad=3

If you continue at fast pace till the finish line or SC and then after crossing the finish line rFactor tells you to give positions back or get them it's no problem. What I was trying to be sure is that I won't be getting a penalty and will instead just be told to put myself in another place with no further consequences.

We tried with Martin, and before you get to the line, you can overtake / be overtaken, it won't change the order. When you get to the line, rFactor will tell you what to do. You won't get a penalty for overtaking temporarily under yellow, you'll only get it if you're out of position when entering the pits, or green flag.

Excellent cheers

Much better like this, as you can go fast to avoid the penalty for being too slow but at the same time without having to decide wether or not to overtake a slower car. You just get through, and if rFactor thinks you could not overtake, you just let him through once you are behind the SC. That solves the question :top:

**********

The test race scheduled tomorrow is cancelled. I was away most of the week due to unforeseen circumstance (and without internet) so I was not able to make the patch we'll use this year.
Two test races will be held on Januray, Thursday 22th and on January, Saturday 24th.
The race thread for these two test races will be open tomorrow night or on Monday. The race thread for the official race (next Sunday) will be open tomorrow with a link for the patch.

Drive Through : If a driver has to do a drive through, even if there is no pit lane speed limit, he has to drive through the pitlane at 100km/h max (60mph). If he doesn't respect this, he will get a 30s penalty at the end of the race.

Pit lane speed limits are generally set track by track by the game.  If you turn on the speed limiter and pass through the pits for a drive through penalty the game will clear the penalty at the pit limited speed.

The pit lane speed limit at the hosted Homestead (using the limiter) is 73 mph.  Are you saying that we need to run 60 mph even though the speed limited rate is 73?

fyi, if 60 mph is it, some track are pit speed limited at less than 60 mph.  Passing through at 60 will not clear a drive through penalty.

fyiII, the pit speed limit can be changed somewhere in the track config (which you probably already know).

Maybe it's not well written, but the 60 mph is when there is NO speed limit, which is often the case in our historic championship (imagine a drive through at Monza with no speed limit, there's no time penalty there - that's why there's this rule).
In CART there's a speed limit set by the game, just follow it.
