He died due to a motorcycle accident last sunday. I once started my league racing career under his name because I always thought he was quite an amazing driver despite running in more then 200 GP's and never winning one.

Stats often point to him not being a great driver, but far from it he was one of the best Italian F1 drivers of the 80s..a 4th with Rial really speaks greatly of his talent.

There is documentary somewhere in which de Cesaris himself comments on this crash as follows: "And there you see my car. Slight off and some minor damage." Or something along those lines.
He had a sense of humour, that much is for sure.
