| They did it because it works and it helps identify with a driver in my opinion. Works for Nascar nicely. I am sure you all know who #3 was. That is strong driver identity tied to the car and even the brand in his case. Now if they switch every season it is going to get old quick. | |

| Except in NASCAR, the number is tied to the team, not the driver. Like it was before 1996 in F1. | |

It varies but that is mostly the case. I suspect what we will see is about as close as F1 can get to Nascar's method. Are the car numbers bigger on the cars this year? Every time I have been to a modern F1 race car number was pretty much useless. I ID'd the cars by helmet or color of some parts differing.

| They will be 'more visible'. Just how much I have no idea. | |

| Formula 1 was great because you had a pair of cars on every team. all distinguishing nicely by the paint scheme, but similiar amongst each other. the second driver, per rule, had some neon parts painted. i dont know excactly how but i read the 79pages of rules, techn regulations.
in nascar u have a unique car for each driver, so i dont know who is in what team. in addition, why is tehre a 77 or 112 or 009 in a 43 car field?
and where do they come from? from the back? no.21? or world champion, no. 1 ?
if u like u could also distinguish the drivers by their helmet or driving style.
remembering a monoposto with huge dwonforce coming towards me from 500m distance, how in hell should there a number as big as a nascar door on a tiny nose where u see the airboix, helmet, nose under a flat angle, tires amd only can read on the rear wing...
in addition:
oh hell now "my driver has the number X".
but if i dont like the number? if another driver wants it?
either use the old numbers or no numbers.
but putting big numbers on the cars destroys the elegance. the greenish silver on the merc was superb. now imagine u put there a big bnumber into the PETRONAS. (well i dont like sponsors either way, but what u wanna do?)
and waht is the use of it if theyll end uop in the invisible size?
i dont need numbers to know who is driving, if u watch tv u sometimes can. super focus super zoom in.
but whatever. some like it and some not. experimental f1.

| reading this i find, since we can see football situations from any angle in 3D anyways, why not make the rFactor like hovering names when u press TAB ?
and make it able to be switched off like selecting the language. kind of as an overlay.
