| Out of curiosity how do they compare to your real F5000 ride? _________________ | |

| Lol.. never drove F5000.
Only car have enough laps/races to compare to mod was Lola T340/342 FF.
Think in real life the Lola had better brakes... | |

| Hi Alberto
Yeah the F5000 physics are very similar to the 1976 Atlantic mod -especially how the front end behaves on initial turn in and exit. Transitional handling characteristics are similar [ esses ] That was very noticeable within the first three laps or so. The rotational characteristics are different though imho because of how the rear end behaves. This could be the default setup.. I dunno.
The rear end behaves in a similar fashion to the atlantic [ power difference aside ] for the most part although there is a difference. After initial turn in, about 1/3 in towards apex the back end of the F5000 slides nicely outwards and points the front end towards the apex. This counters the understeer that the atlantic chassis exhibits under the same dynamic loads and allows for a faster rotation imho.. Light touch required there lol.
Will require slightly different techniques for turn in, especially on tighter corners such as hairpins but they are similar.
I prefer the chassis to rotate the way the F5000 does. I didn't try any setups and really need many more laps for a better evaluation.
I am really looking forward to trying to get a handle on this F5000 beast!
Great job modders, thanks!

- I know of at least two: Chris O'Brien, aka "Chriso," who is the ONLY sim-racer I know of who also raced in REAL life against four men who would all later go on to become F1 World Champions...and also against a fifth man most agree "should have been."
Chris raced in the lower formula (F2/F3, and probably FF too) in the UK back in the early seventies, turning wheels in anger against the likes of none other than Niki Lauda, Jody Sheckter, James Hunt and Alan Jones...
...and in 1974 he raced at least part of a season in Formula Atlantic over on this side of the pond, competing against Gilles Villeneuve.

[DNF'ed in this one--17th after 17 laps completed, driving a Rondel]
Needless to say, Chris was and still is pretty competent and quick himself, and his "gear-shifting" technique for sim-racing was probably the very first ever immortalized on video way back in the days of our first great simulation: "Grand Prix Legends"--see it here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CjURCM9lkcE
The original title of that ^ video was "Chriso Rows it at Rouen" and he's driving the original version of Rouen, as given to us by Papyrus way back in the day. He's using a very early ACT LABS GPL shifter....
----
The second man would be our very own John Nelson here at CMS, who raced FA quite a bit later on. I won't presume to relate any of John's story, as I am simply not privy to much of it. He can chime in himself, if he cares to.
Just FYI....
CS great, his video was the engine in my own Hshifter making , i had some personal e-mails with him on 2002 year about GPL racing _________________ Status: back from retirement ,DNF, | |
