| Fittipaldi then? In 1984 he joined CART, maybe he did an attempt first with F1 but saw no chance? _________________ | |

| Correct, He went to Rio as without the stresses of running a team, he actually missed racing, Tested the Spirit Hart, Who wanted to run 2 cars as there other driver paid alot (Enough to sign Emmo) But Emmo was so surprised/disapointed that his talent couldn't close the gap to the better engines teams, He decided not to run and went to CART.
Also the other driver didn't get a super licence so his money didn't go into the team anyway and so Emmo wouldn't have been signed anyway. _________________

| Who and when put a junkyard ex-school bus engine in his Indycar and even lead the Indy500 after outqualifying Foyt, Sneva and Johncock among others? _________________ | |

| I think I'm up. A very very easy one. Name three families who meet both the following statements:
- they have at least two members that raced
at least two of these racing members raced both in F1 and Indycar/CART.

| It's a bit of a stretch since Teddy's highlight in Indycars was a DNQ at Indy I think, but still makes a link with his grandfather's 1910s achievements . And of course all three competed in international Grand Prix racing, before and during the F1 days. _________________ Thou shalt not train.

| Besides the obvious families above, I found the Fabis. Although Corrado's career was certainly more forgettable than his brother's he drove in both IndyCar and F1. There was also Bobby and Jerry Unser, Jerry was at Indy in 1958. _________________ http://newarchive.simjunkies.org/discussion/9582/asj-f1-1982-race-4 | |

| Indeed the Fabis which have the distinction of having accomplished that feat in one year : 1984 . I don't agree with the Unsers though as only Bobby ever came close to Grand Prix racing, while Jerry never did . _________________ Thou shalt not train.

| Well Indy 500 was part of the World Drivers' Championship but it was never a Formula 1 race - up to 1956 it was to pre-war GP rules and from 1957 onwards to USAC Indycar rules. Best proof is that it didn't even count for the first (1958-60) F1 Constructors' Cups alongside the other GPs _________________ Thou shalt not train.

| Ah I see, that was quite a mess in the 50's Not sure Gary Brabham qualifies as driving in F1 as he had a Life For those who wonder, there's a Matthew Brabham currently in Indy Lights. _________________ http://newarchive.simjunkies.org/discussion/9582/asj-f1-1982-race-4 | |

David never did Indycars, but Gary did the Australian race in '93 and '94! As for the Fittipaldi's no father and son did run both F1 and Indycars, Wilson could never bother with Indy!

| I saw the Life crawl on the track for pre-qualifying at Monaco, with Giacomelli driving . Beautiful engine though - JP Campmajo wrote:

In fact it was not at all, and only decades of history re-writing by the hordes of ignorant sold-out PRs having vampirised this sport have made it appear confusing retrospectively . This started in 1950 as a championship to determine the world's best driver. The selected races were F1 Grand Prix events, with the addition of Indy which was still run to the pre-war 1938 GP rules. When ALFA-Romeo pulled out of GP racing at the end of 1951, many race promoters turned to the much wealthier F2 field and so did the WDC for two years (52-53). But decades of morale midgetry and bad journalism have melted all this in the "F1" pot when usually they only mean to say "World Championship" _________________ Thou shalt not train.

Thanks for the correction I thought David had done a one-off Indycar driver somewhere in his career. _________________ Thou shalt not train.

| The two Fabi-brothers indeed. I should have known those.
The Villeneuves are similar to the Fittipaldi in that way that it wasn't father and son who ran both Indy and F1. Gilles went straight from F Atlantic to F1 and never looked back. It was Gilles' brother Jacques Sr who did both F1 and Indy as did Jacques Sr off-course.
